British Ink Sample Exchange

Recommended Posts

This topic has been pinned at the request of Carrie. Yes, Dillon has the vials in stock at this writing. The way to tell: Click on the main pinned topic about the KCat ink trading system. At the top you'll see a message about vials with a link to Dillo, click it. Scroll down to the very bottom of the post and on the left in small print you'll see where he has stated whether or not vials are in stock.  --Ann

Something that was mentioned at the Northern Pen Show was the idea of doing a British only ink sample exchange in order to keep postage costs down.

I'll have a look how many of the vials I have. They originally came from Dillo, but not sure if he still supplies them or even if he still uses the forum.

Someone is keen on black!

Add to my list the slightly exotic R&K Scabiosa...ooh iron gall...living life dangerously. I love these ferrogallic inks!

So, we just need some containers. I am super keen on trying some registrar's ink from diamine, for example.

Hi Carrie,

I've got some vials that I think will be suitable for the UK ink exchange, I use them to ship my shellac in - no problems with people receiving Jiffy bags full of orange gooey stuff :roflmho: :roflmho: I'll bring a couple of hundred along to the Midland Pen Weekend and any FPNer who wants them can have some for nowt.

Hope to see you there - assuming you know where Lichfield is (yes, Carrie, I saw your post  )!!!!!!!!!!!

I have just received some of the vials that Ian has and haven't had chance to contact him yet about them. They're very long and thin in comparison to the vials that Dillon supplies, so sadly I don't really think they're suitable. I've got quite a few of Dillon's vials....somewhere, no doubt never to be seen again in the chaos of house moving.

I've got a few new inks I can add to the list as well.

Hello all,

I'd like to join the UK ink exchange also. I'm pretty new to this at the moment so my list is very small indeed but my collection will be growing shortly. I plan on getting some more next week and will update and edit list as appropriate.

My vials should be on the way from Dillon as well so it looks like I'm all set!

Here is my list...

Private Reserve

Midnight Blues

Visconti

vanGogh Sepia

Waterman

Florida Blue

Thanks,

Matt.

Re UK Ink Exchange

Have 75 ml of Green to swap with UK FPNs, ink writes dark green on a wet writer and, logically, light green on a dry writer.

Any colour considered

Is anyone still doing this?

I'd like to join, have quite a few inks but no point listing them if the exchange is now defunct. I would also need to get vials from somewhere.

Any info anyone????

Hi, I am interested in still doing this and can provide vials. If you choose an ink from me, I can then send a spare vial with your sample:

Inks that I have are:

Quink Black

Quink Blue

Montblanc Bordeaux (dark red/brown)

Lamy Green

Watermans Red

I will happily exchange any of the inks above for anything new. I`d love to try a noodlers ink or Aurora Black or Blue....also anything with shading, actually I think I`m strongly establishing the fact that I`m pretty happy trading for anything different to try! Only a small amount needed to trade, just enough for a few fills.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
