I have a LAMY 2000 with an EF nib and I had the nib replaced on it twice (I bought a F . . . once I asked Swisher to replace it and once I asked LAMY and they put an EF in there accidentally).

I find the sweet spot very very small on these nibs.

My question is should I replace the nib with another EF or F or get a M? I have had three LAMY 2000 nibs with the same problem (the right hand tine is very very very scratchy when I write normally with this pen). Is this normal? Or is it just the way I write?

I'd love to be able to use this pen since I spent $$ on it.

I am glad you like the L2K, it is one of my fav pens, a real workhorse, holds a ton of ink and seems to accept any paper!

Hello,

I have two of them, one with EF and one with B nib.

Using it as some kind of inky ballpoint substitute.

Really very uncomplikated fountainpens.

The EF nib tends to be a little scratchy with wrong paper or handhold...

Thanks for the review!

Anna

I have 3 Lamy 2Ks, and they're all the regular model (not the LEs). Two of them have F nibs and the other has a EF; they all write the same... a normal F line. Maybe I got lucky.

I am going to send mine into LAMY again. I am just not sure whether to get a M or F. I tend to like to use EF or F nibs, but if the M isn't too far off the F . . . and it's smoother, I can live with that. I'll just use an ink that doesn't flow as much (definitely no Waterman!).

Hi,

I read that you were having problems with seeing the orientation of the semi-hooded nib. I read that some folks use the little cap clips as orientation markers that help with tactual feedback. If you don't mind writing with the cap posted, something I do with most of my pens is to post them so that the clip is in alignment with the nib. This can be done carefully once and then you need only refer to the orientation of the shiny clip (which is both bigger and closer to your eyes) to know how the nib is oriented.

Depending on your posture and how you hold and write with your pen, the clip will be visible from the side or a 3/4 angle or whatever. When you understand what angle is the right angle for you, that's the basic angle you watch for. This will work on all you pens of course -that you post and have clips. Once you get used to this, it will be as natural and unconscious as riding a bike.

I hope that helps.

:happyberet: Stephanie............after that wonderful review, you dumped your "buddy" L2K. I was never interested in this pen although Lamy make fine pens and have sevaral of them. The L2K does not have the "look" of a FP that I like.

It is.....it is.........its is................too smart for me. :ltcapd: I can't stand its good looks. Oh dear!!!

Greetings, Biffy

could you let us know the rationale for your decision of ceasing the usage of the Lamy 2000?

did the lamy 2000 fountain pen break down in any way?

did it have any special quirks that after a long period of time, you were not able to adjust to?

could you please share with us why you have decided not to use the Lamy 2000 fountain pen ?

i am currently a student who intends to purchase the lamy 2000 due to its

1. large refill capacity compared to other pens

2. its ink indicator

3. it's sleek and understated design

please share your thoughts on why you have decided not to use the pen anymore, as your feedback would seriously affect my purchase decision.

thanks in advance

:)

Great review Biffy, and great blog as well. You've provided some excellent reviews on the essentials of handwriting...invaluable to the FP noob such as myself!

The Lamy XF is in fact quite a wet writer, especially with Noodler's Black.

However, it's silky smooth and great value for money, given it's cost. I also love how it's less 'blingy' than the traditional resin cigar-shaped pens yet performs and balances almost as well.

The Makrolon is lightweight, durable (I've dented it, dropped it, put it in the same pocket as my carkeys......) and it now has the well worn look. I'll never sell it.

Writes more like a Japanese medium than an XF though.

I've been reading biffybean's blog and reviews and they've been most helpful. Many thanks! :cloud9:

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
