Any Deals in Japan?

I have an employee whose husband is working in Japan for a stint. I was wondering if anyone here has any experience with Japanese pens. I was hoping that he may be able to find me a good deal on a unique Japanese fountain pen. Any thoughts?

I like Japanese pens because their nibs are much finer :) But another bad thing is so far, a lot of the Japanese pens I have looked into are short cartridge takers, so it's very hard to find a converter for.

Try Sailor, Platinum, or Namiki brand.

My vote goes to Nakaya, when it comes to Japanese fountain pens. Their craftsmanship and customer service both receive five-star awards in my book. Likewise, they will also repair and perform nib service on other pens as well.

In answer to your question of deals my favorite pen site in Japan is engeika pen shop, reason being is that he

stocks at very good prices 7 different brands of pens as well as other stuff I have a great collection of his pens most with special made nibs which can meet the most discerning writers requirements, the pens are all made by

specialist pen makers who have been making them for years one of the nib makers was the famous Mr Nagahara .I

recently bought A pen called the Justus which has the ability to write either Hard or Soft by just a twist of the Barrel, when you purchase your first pen from him tell him that BRYAN from Australia recommended you to him, he will probably give you a real good deal.Trust me

Someone on these pages asked the question What is a Wancher Crystal pen? it is a special pen made to address the

meanings within each Crystal.

Unique japanese pen... Uhhh its going to be hard as its a cross prefecture stint...

Check the big 3 websites, Sailor typically has a page dedicated for their shop exclusive pens even then they are the most proliffic in the LE and SE race konzert brown in joyful-honda's gunma prefecture, usagiya in okuyama prefecture probably still has some, side-river publications also has some nakaya and sailor probably...

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
