The Philly Pen Show

Doesn't it figure that the Philadelphia Pen Show will be taking place a mere two weeks after I've left town! Doesn't it just!

And it's not even like any of my "people" in Philly would go for me and report back on all they had seen and learned.

They'd get a good laugh at the suggestion, though.

Anyone here planning to go to that Show, by any chance?

I'll be there, doing my nib thing. Barbara will be with me, and she is hoping to be down to one crutch by then so she can carry stuff.

I don't need more pens right now. I don't need to see what's out there, or to hang out at Richard's table. Right?

Right?

And the fact that Philadelphia is, in fact, a plausible day trip from NYC via bus or train should have no bearing on my plans for the month.

Right?

C'mon, y'all, help me out here!

Hey New Yorker ;)

I'm awaiting the NYC Pen Show if they have one this year... Actually, I think there are really cheap buses to Philly from Chinatown, but I'm not sure where they drop you off and all the details, etc...

Oh, how much is admission to the Philly Pen Show?

This thread has more information and links, and I think the admission is a whopping $8 per day.

Philly Pen Show

I was seriously beginning to think about it, then The Spousal Unit pointed out that we're doing another trip at the end of the month, and since I've not made it past the suburbs in over a year (and that was two trips to Westchester, and one to Westbury), he's afraid I'll have some sort of trauma to my system if I go outside of the city too much too soon.

I'm sooooo frustrated! I was planning on going to the Philly show. I was even going to take my daughter out for her birthday (she goes to school in Philly and her birthday is Saturday). I thought I'd be fully recovered from pneumonia, but it's harder to shake than I thought. Waaaaaaaaaa :( cough cough

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
