Pen Stores in Houston

Recommended Posts

Hello All,

I live in Anchorage, Alaska, which has no pen stores. I will be in Houston, Texas on business and was wondering if there are any good pen stores that I can visit to look for Pelikan and Signum fountain pens?

Web sites are great, but I would like to handle the pens before I select which one(s) to purchase.

Thanks for the help.

There's a very nice Paradise Pens in the major shopping mall called "The Galleria." It's a rather corporate environment (the mall) but you might enjoy it anyway, since it's clean and indoors and is large enough to have more than "just" the typical mall stores. They have lots of new pens and inks available.

I second the Dromgoole’s recommendation. If you haven’t completed your trip yet, you should stop by Paradise Pens in The Galleria, but DO NOT miss Dromgoole’s! They offer the brand pens you mentioned, plus many other brands – and, unlike PP, often at a discount. Larry Dromgoole & Co. are very knowledgeable & helpful. They will let you dip test pens in any of the huge selection of inks they carry. Plus they carry a great selection of paper: Clairefontaine, Rhodia, G. Lalo, Crane, etc.

A true endangered species: a wonderful, neighborhood, bricks-and-mortar, service oriented, family-owned business. No affiliation, just a very satisfied repeat customer.

There are at least THREE major pen stores either IN, or Next-To Galleria. Enjoy them all, if you want an expensive pen retail.......

That said, Dromgoole's for ink, and around the corner from them (1 blk E, 1.5 blk N; Antone's) is the BEST PO'BOY IN HOUSTON.

Don't miss that.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
