I don't own any Dunhill pens, but their nibs are made by Namiki. I do own a couple of Namiki pens and their nibs are excellent.

Scribbler, peninasia has some really good pics of the Dunhill AD2000. Take a look at the nib and converter.

If you browse through my review of the Namiki Bamboo you'll see how the nibs resemble each other and they use the same type of converter.

I've got an AD2000 -- got it at the Dunhill outlet shop at Bicester, as it happens.

I think all the writing bits are made by Namiki, which is an old alliance, since there were Dunhill Namikis on sale in Japan in the 1930s, and highly regarded pens too.

The nib, then, writes like a Namiki -- that is, very well indeed. Mine is a pretty rigid fine. The converter is also a Namiki -- some kind of pump action, which occasionally baffles me.

The barrel and cap are made in Switzerland, and the adjustable clip is really neat, and more than a gimmick, I think. The material the barrel is made of -- rich blue with with gold speckles -- is very nice indeed.

It's a very good pen; I don't use mine all that much, since it is a bit big for my hand, but if it boils your broccoli, go for it.

Best

I have a 5 yr-old carbon fiber AD2000 Dunhill that is one of my all time favorite pens. It will likely never leave my collection. The Namiki/Pilot nib is superb, with just a hit of flex/softness; I have the scarce Oblique-Medium. The converter is the typical large-capacity, pump-operated Namiki-Pilot unit.

Handling - I always, always use the pen unposted, as it's not really balanced well otherwise. For my hand and writing style, the section grip falls perfectly in my hand and the pen is exquisitly balanced.

And the pen is a real looker with the torpedo shape, the carbon fiber material, and that ultra-cool and understated retracting clip.

Do you get the impression that I like this pen?

I have only one Dunhill, an AD2000 in red (burgundy?). When I learned that Namiki makes the nibs, I contacted the Dunhill customer service folks to find out if they had a stub or italic nib available. I was told they had a B stub available. I reasoned that, if the nibs were true Japanese nibs that run smaller than US/European nibs, that B stub would probably be a M stub.

I sent the pen for a nib exchange, and my expectations were fulfilled - the nib is a lovely, free flowing M stub that is really fun to write with. I also like the fun vacuum fill converter. The AD2000 is in my regular pen rotation, but it is moderately uncomfortable for me at times because of the (for me) huge drop off between the barrel and the section. Sometimes it is a little uncomfortable for me to wrap my fingrs around the section. It is a mood thing, I suppose.

All told, I give this pen an A+. I would in fact recommend it. Be sure you get a color you like because you will be living with this pen for a long while.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
