Gio,

do you plan on releasing this model in different colours/patterns ?

No, this is it!

We may never get another batch, by the way. But there are still plenty of pens in stock.

TMann, lovely pen. Even as an 'anti red' I like this one.

Too bad it doesn't have the solid weight and sheer size of the Kika, Gio :roflmho:

The Kika Debutante or the Maxima OS?

Just wanted to chime in on TMann's excellent review. I just got this pen last week from Richard, and it's a marvel. If you are looking for a superior, true celluloid (my first! Wonderful feel) pen with simply gorgeous Autumnal flecks that change with every pen rotation this is for you...and did I mention the price? $75! It's a fantastically well-made pen and Richard ground it to a sweeeeeet 0.7mm stub - smooth and starts right up each time. It feels great in the hand and looks lovely on paper.

Richard out of these pens  :(

Hmm. I'm a bit surprised at this because when I last checked my inventory I had a good stock of Clefs. :D

I gotta say, this is a remarkably attractive and well made pen. The price is ridiculously low for a true celluloid pen of this quality.

Ruaidhri - nice! I await another review :D

The question is whether you'll have it ground to a stub like everyone else here? :P

Do you have that sinking feeling that you have been "set up?"

Andy,

I suspect FPN's whole raison d'étre is to 'set me up' :D

However, as Sheila says, it keeps me off the street corners

As an aside, having compared a Clef and a Retro 51 Double-Eight side by side, I think they bought their stock from the same source.

Lovely pens.

TMann,

great review and photos. Saliva dribbles out of my mouth.

Richard out of these pens :(

Does Clef come only with F/M nib or there are F or even EF?

Is it good starter after sitting unused for a while?

The Clef comes with a very smooth M nib. It is one of the smoothest out-of-the-box nibs I have ever seen.

It is in stock at the distributor, so our retailers should have no trouble ordering it from us. Beautiful pen, great celluloid, impeccably finished.

Who sells the Clef and has it in stock currently? If poss., a list of Retailers/Dealers from which to choose, thx.

Unfortunately, no one. The Clef was a limited production run item. I missed out on them when they were current production and had to watch the Marketplace until one came up for sale. I waited a long while. About the only thing I can suggest is that you try a "wanted to buy" ad in the Marketplace and Pentrace's green board. I wish you luck.

Pens are like watches , once you start a collection, you can hardly go back. And pens like all fine luxury items do improve with time

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
