OH BOY... got my eBay purchase

OldGriz

Recommended Posts

I bid on some Parker 45 pens that Jean-Michel had for sale on eBay...

They arrived today. He shipped them on Monday 11/28... you can't ask for better service than that...

Exactly as advertised.... a flat of 10 Parker 45 FPs and a pack of 5 Parker Black Cartidges as a bonus.

Cost $13/pen including the shipping....

I found out that Parker still has solid gold nibs for these pens in stock and ordered two for myself...

The rest I will probably sell to recoup my cost of the pens and nibs and have some more eBay money... :P :P

I only have one complaint... and that is the fact that you guys have created a monster.... I am looking at more pens.... this is not a good thing for a person who already makes pens...... I am going to need someone to explain this to my wife... who already is convinced I am crazy...

Tom, thanks for the info on how quickly your shipment arrived. There are some pens I want to bid on.

I asked Jean-Michel in an e-mail about combining postage. He said to add 1.20GBP per pen to the cost of one with the most expensive postage. Would you happen to know how that translates into dollars and cents?

TIA,

Ann

JML is a pleasure to deal with. A real eBay pro. I have a p45 set (FP+RB) winging its way to me now...

For the currency conversion, I use http://www.xe.com/ucc to get an idea for the aproximate exchage rate. They quote commercial spot rates, but with the amounts I deal in, the difference between that and the retail rate charged by PayPal or CC's is negligible...

The current mid-market spot rate for GBP-USD:

1.20 GBP = 2.08034 USD

so figure 2.09 maybe 2.10

Hope this helps...

Tom

Hi Tom,

Thanks for this very good feedback on this very important website!!!

Every day now some buyers send mails like this one:

Jean-Michel,

I’ve now paid. By the way, you’re getting more great feedback here:

I also got a beautiful red marble Parker Frontier set from Jean-Michel.

Excellent service. Buy yourself a little treat if you don't want to make a big purchase.

I've been meaning to figure out how to contact Parker about getting one of those gold nibs for my Parker 45. Did you buy the nibs outright or have them do a swap? How did you contact them?

Hi,

If you do a swap for a gold nib, you have to pay $20. I did that, and now I have a gold EF.

Dillon

Stolen: Aurora Optima Demonstrator Red ends Medium nib. Serial number 1216 and Aurora 98 Cartridge/Converter Black bark finish (Archivi Storici) with gold cap. Reward if found. Please contact me if you have seen these pens.

Please send vial orders and other messages to fpninkvials funny-round-mark-thing gmail strange-mark-thing com. My shop is open once again if you need help with your pen.

Will someone with the name of "Jay" who emailed me through the email system provide me an email address? There was no email address provided, so I can't write back.

I just called Parker Customer Service... (1-800-237-8736)

The gold nibs were $20/ea and did not have to exchange the old nib....

I bought a fine and a medium... and the medium seemed to write about the same as the steel fine... GO FIGGA!!

So my buddy bought the Parker 45 with a gold fine nib....

My nibs are on the way. Here's the story. For $10 they have 14k gold plated nibs. For $20 they have 10k solid gold nibs. In each case there's an additional $5 shipping & handling.

At first the woman said I'd have to send the pen in for a swap. Then she checked with a technician & was told they could send me the nibs. However, they could not send the "bear grease" they use to prevent leaks. The woman didn't know if this was silicone grease.

BTW, the woman was very friendly. I liked the service!

I ordered both a fine & extra fine. This way if I don't like one, hopefully I'll like the other ... and "worst case", if I like them both, I'll have to buy a second P45! :D When the nibs arrive, I'm going to have to figure out how to do the nib swap. Any suggestions?

Real simple, you just unscrew the old one and screw in the new one... could not be easier..

I don't know about grease, but I did not use anything on the two I did and neither leak...

One is loaded with black Quink and the other PR DC Blue..

I have a fine in one and a medium in the other... I found these nibs do not write as broad as the steel nibs..

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
