Dear all, I will like to share with all of you the experiences of the 2nd Madrid Pen Show.

The Weekend of 11th-13th November we celebrate in Madrid the Second Edition of the Madrid Pen Show. As last year, the Show was fully Sponsored by Parker and Waterman and was organiced by Julia Gusano, Jesus Martinez Guillen and myself (Alfonso Mur).

We decided to repeat hotel in a 200 square meters ballroom with plenty of light. For this year we had 30 tables with dealers from USA, UK, France, Belgium, Israel, Netherlands, Brasil and several parts of Spain. On thursday night we all met to taste a marvelous Spanish wine with tapas and we had great fun.

We account visitors over 600, adding the three days. We had local TV on Friday Morning recording some interviews and a lot o material of the Pen Show. Then we had 10 minutes in prime time in one of the more viewed programs on friday night (called Madrid Directo).

Business was great, specially for those dealers who know what the Spanish market wish to collect.

We had a wonderful Show, with wonderful friends, and we are know working on the 3rd Edition for November 2006.

My Conklin collection improved a lot with the Show.

I have some pictures that I will love to Share with all of you but I do not know how to upload them. If someone can help...

Well Thanks for reading and best regards from Madrid

Alf

Hi Alf,

Thanks for the report. I would love to see some photos from the show. Francis asked the same question re: uploading your own photos and this is how I answered him a few days/weeks ago:

I think you first need to find a website that will host your photos like www.imageshack.us , then you copy the URL assigned to your photo and post it here by  clicking on the IMG button in the posting page where you create a new post.

Maybe someone else can chime in with more ideas; I use my own personal site just to host photos and have never used Imageshack, et al.

Looking forward to seeing the photo(s)!

~Maja

P.S. What type of pens were the most popular at the show, in terms of sales? Also, what type of Conklins did you get? (maybe you can post a reply with photos when you get a chance?)

¡Hola Alfonso!

I too would very much like to see your photos. To post your pics you can sign up with an online image hosting site like Photobucket. It's free and easy to use.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
