Sheaffer cartridge & converter

I can't seem to find cartridges anymore for my cheap Sheaffer. When I go into an Office Depot or Office Max I just get a blank stare and/or an invented answer from the ignorant teen-ager working there. Are the cartridges still made?

 

I've been refilling the remaining few that I have, but after so many refills, the plastic starts to split. Is there a converter that will replace this cartridge?

 

Or, Can I just fill the pen body with an eyedropper and screw the nib back on? Will this have disasterous consequences?

Hi Joe,

 

Sheaffer is a dying brand . This means that it is hard to find Sheaffer pens in shops, whereas Sheaffer cartridges are hard to find. The same case with bottled ink. Here in Holland Sheaffer ink is getting scarce.

 

Of course you can buy a Sheaffer converter. I have a Sheaffer Targa with a aeroconverter, and this works great. They can be ordered online

 

Beware of using some pens as eyedroppers. Experts say that pens with metal barrells can cause unwanted chemical reactions.

 

So, be very careful with converting an c/c fp to an eyedropper.

You may want to let us know more about the Sheaffer pen you have so we can match it up with the right converter. Is it a Cartridge pen? A Reacktor (uses international, not Sheaffer carts)? A NoNonsense / Viewpoint Calligraphy pen?

Last I checked in my Local Office Max, they had them. Look in the pen section with the other refills (roller balls, etc)

 

You can also try a craft store like Micheal's. look in the Calligraphy section. My Micheals has them in multiple colors.

The big office supply stores (Staples, Office Max, etc) don't stock many Sheaffer products at all anymore.

 

The only Sheaffer pen you can get at my local Staples is a Tagalong (the NN ballpoints that have a neckstrap attached). Refill selection is equally skimpy.

 

Fortunately, there is still a local stationary store near my town that stocks a fairly complete range of Sheaffer refills. If there's one in your area, joesixpack, check them out.

 

Otherwise, Sheaffer refills are still in production and are plentiful at Sheaffer dealers like PenHero and full-service dealers like Pendemonium (obligatory disclaimer - just a fan, not compensated for this endorsement of aformentioned dealers).

 

And, if you take a peak on the Marketplace area here at FPN, there are a few folks selling cartridges.

I can't believe that you can't find these things. If these same stores have the Sheaffer Calligraphy sets, you might have to show that to the clerk and ask them where they keep the cartridges for those pens, as they're compatible. That is assuming, of course, that you're not using a Sheaffer with the "Slim" cartridge. If you're using a Sheaffer that takes the "slim" cartridge, then you might be out of luck, as I believe that Sheaffer discontinued that.

 

You can also use a convertor with the pen, so you can choose from the numerous brands and colors of ink.
