Reporting a doubtful ebay vendor

Hi all,

I was just browsing around on eBay and came across this item.

It has a couple of problems --

1) It claims to be in Sydney, but from the postal information down the bottom, it is plain that it is shipping out of Hong Kong.

2) It claims to be a Hero pen, but is clearly a Jinhao X450.

I would have no problems with the listing if it was accurate, but I am tempted to report this to eBay.

1) Would it do any good?

2) I have to give my eBay ID to make the report. Is this wise? Should I have a second eBay account that is otherwise inactive just to make these reports?

Why would you be concerned about giving eBay your eBay ID? Or giving anyone your eBay ID. Mine is "baktun" and when I was active on eBay with my store I included it in my email signatures and everywhere. If I was a pen seller I'd include it in my FPN signature here.

I don't see what the sensitivity about eBay IDs is about. It's up there plain as day for everyone to see on eBay anyway.

To your question, yes, if you are certain of what you say I would report it. User reports is the only way eBay can learn about problem sellers.

I just wanted to be sure that it was safe to use my 'normal' ID for something that would adversely affect a vendor.

Thanks,

David

I wouldn't worry about it. Maybe others have a different opinion and if so I'd like to know why. Plus I can't imagine eBay telling the guy who lodged a complaint. There's absolutely no reason to tell him. You are simply letting eBay know "back channel" that there's something fishy about that seller. They may or may not act on it but your report will certainly go into their records for that user and if another complaint comes in, at some point they will act.

I expect they will send him an email saying "We have received complaints from users saying such and such. You are aware that fraudulent listings are against eBay Rules, blah, blah, blah... Clean up your act or else."

DC, I just went to ebay using your link to see what the item looked like and this is what was on the site:

This Listing Is Unavailable

This listing (110224953105) has been removed or is no longer available.

If the listing was removed by eBay, consider it cancelled. Note: Listings that have ended more than 90 days ago will no longer appear on eBay.

I'll bet ebay removed his listing! ~Les~ :)

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
