My only Sonnet is a Sterling Silver Fougere with gold accents m two tone gold nib. I can't start to tell you how good this pen looks and how well it performs! One of my favorites!

does it write wet, fat, wide, etc like the others guys saids?

I am hesitant to buy a sonnet. I don't have a parker in my collection and thought it a good choice to get a sonnet. It looked like it could be a potential workhorse. I like my nibs EF too.

I hope there are more positive comments on this pen.

anyway what parker 75 are you speaking of? i dont see that model on their website.

The Parker 75 is an out-of-production pen. The Parker website shows only the pens that are in production. That, well, bites.

Well, if the Sonnet is your pen of choice, and you really like it, and it will be a daily writer for you, then buy what you want and send it to one of the nibmeisters to have it adjusted to put down the exact line you want and smoothed for feel. It costs a little extra, and takes a little extra time, but the results will completely blow away anything Parker will deliver from the factory. Without a doubt. You'll have a daily writer that, with proper maintenance, will write great for years to come.

Sure, it'll void the warranty, but I think it'll be a far better performing and more pleasurable writing experience for you... something to think about anyway.

This is just my opinion - but the thing with the Sonnets is, they are not very good when new, but you have to persist with them. Wash the feed with dilute soap solution a few times, and keep using them. I have a Sonnet with a steel nib (Chrome finish). I was none too impressed the first time I wrote with it, but I love it now - it is still not anywhere near as smooth as my Waterman Carene, but guess what? I love the way it writes anyway.

But yes, I have a medium nib and it writes fairly thick. No doubt about it. Parkers are well known to write fairly thick. NOt just the Sonnets, even the 45 and the frontier are like that (atleast the ones I had were).

Agree completely with ramshacklemann. Sonnets are good; Sonnets need some breaking in; Sonnet nibs run wide and IMO the gold nibs are fairly tactile and toothy and slightly springy. I enjoy them. As nibs go, sure, they are not the ultimate - but for a $100 to $200 pen, gold nib, they are not bad. The white gold nib on my Ocean Blue is one of my favorites.

I have an 18k gold nib sonnet, it has good flex and writes beautifully, I'm no pro to flex, but it does flex! Another thing watch out for fakes, they are suddenly popular now. Sonnet fines are more like medium fines than true fines, so get a XF if you dont want MF. A real sonnet performs great it's those fakes that don't work!

I have several sonnets, including two of the first edition (in gt black and cisele). They are all good writers, however... especially the newer ones started to write significantly better after I made sure the tines were aligned properly, washed the nib (nib only, screwed out of the section) in water with dishwashing soap. Also, some of the nibs required me to increase the inkflow to my liking (I like wet) with the brass sheet, purchased in the Richard Binder smoothing kit.

Now they are all (6) excellent writers!

I bought a black lacquer sonnet with a fine nib from Office Depot for $79 Canadian to go with other Sonnets I own. The problem is in the converter. For some reason, the cheap piston converter now has a ball bearing as the agitator and not a metal coil or spring. This causes clogging. My advice would be to buy a new converter, preferably the screw-in type (which I have seen for sale as low as $2.50 from Midoco in Toronto). The Sonnet is a good pen with not much difference in flex between the steel and the gold nibs imho. But, as in everything, always keep receipts!!!!

If you want a pen that is inexpensive, writes flawlessly with a fine line and comes with a good converter, the Pilot Knight takes some beating. The nib is stiff, though.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
