Bock nibs: For whom do they supply nibs?

It's the same now in my lifelong sport of field-hockey...with literally one or two exceptions the hockey sticks are all churned-out buy just a few Far-Eastern factories.

It makes me smile when I hear young players say "My xxxxx is so much better than the yyyyyy" when the only real difference is the paint-job!!!

(My stick was handmade, to my spec, by a company in Holland run by one man who makes each item himself and knows just about everything worthwhile about the technology involved......... where can you get a FP like that?)

(Pity I am now too decrepit to play...I just let the youngsters try this 'tool', a brand they have never heard-of, and watch 'em fall in love with it!)

With nibs made by Bock it is slightly different. The characteristics of a nib are specified by the company who buys them from Bock, and as far as I am aware, not a single nib of a pen manufacturere has the same characteristics as those of another, at least not in the high end nibs made by Bock.

You also have Ferrari Da Varese, Eli Bleu and Stipula who use Bock nibs but as wimg said it well, the nib feeling is different.

Pens are like watches , once you start a collection, you can hardly go back. And pens like all fine luxury items do improve with time

They definitely make nibs for Delta (I've used a variety of Bock nibs in my Delta Moresi). They also supply Conway Stewart (this is from both textual and visual evidence, but I'd be hard-pressed to cite my sources). They supply Danitrio as well (I have read this many times and have seen Danitrio nibs on other Bock-supplied pens). I believe they also manufacture Nettuno's nibs, though that is conjecture based on pictures I've seen. To that list, you can add a number of small manufacturers, like Classic Pens (the LM series are fitted with Bock nibs) and David Oscarson.

More will come to mind. Best,

David

Since Delta makes Nettuno, I would imagine they also use Bock nibs. The 90's Tibaldi's also had Bock nibs. And they also supply Danitrio AND Montegrappa.

1. Who is Elie Bleu?

2. Bock makes the nibs according to the client's needs, so that the MG and Danitrio nibs might be more flexible, etc. They also make custom sizes, although most makers use the No. 6. The MG Extra and Limited Editions, and the huge Danitrios are a No. 9 (or number 8, I always forget).

Nettuno is made by Firma, recently acquired by Aurora. No relationship with Delta.

Hi,

The nibs are often made to a specifiaction as in Omas and older Pelikans. The allow is chosen, the, shape is drawn, and the artwork is worked on.

Nettuno production has ceased for the moment. They will start producing soon hopefully.

Being a Pelikan fan,I am happy to say that they produce their own nibs in "Pelikan Produktionsgesellschaft, Pelikanstr 11,Peine/Vöhrum"-their nib production company, near Hannover.

I received this information from Pelikan Consumer service.

Best regards,

A question pops into my head. How many nib makers are there, so do they have a lot of choice except making there own. :meow:

Great list -- manufacturer links even! It's tempting to think this means a Kaweco is as good as a Visconti in terms of writability but it's not true

No one mentioned TWISBI I don't think....now made by Bock....well some of them at least.... :headsmack:

As a conclusion, the only way to make sure you don't buy a Bock nib is to buy FPs from Aurora, Pilot/Namiki, Sailor or Platinum. laugh.gif

EDIT: Sheaffer inlaid nibs aren't made by Bock also.

Add to that Montblanc, Pelikan, Parker / Waterman, & Cross.

Hero, Kaiglu and other chinese brands too manufacture their own I think, as does Dollar Pakistan.

Cleo Skribent uses Bock nibs.

So does Pelikan use Bock or not??

Not anymore. They did for a while but started to switch back to in-house nibs around 2008-2009 or so. The nib for the M1000 was the last to be switched back.

There is a period when the nibs were made by Bock.

The m1000 nib was never manufactured by bock but was manufactured inhouse. The m800 was manufactured by Bock.

S.T. Dupont make their own nibs, as far as I know.

Does anyone knows who makes the modern Onoto nibs ?

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
