MB nib exchange

I'm interested to know how much MB charged some of you who wanted to exchange their nib within their warranty. I've decided to change my nib size and the sales person at the boutique said that it costs $180 to do so. What do you think?

Just last week I got my Meisterstuck 146 back from a nib exchange through my local boutique. The cost to me was ~$32. The price book she showed me before I sent it out (since there was a thread on here about an unexpectedly expensive MB repair) claimed a nib exchange would be no more than ~$52. Maybe that's a regional price or something? Dunno. Maybe ask the salesperson if you can see their pricing book?

My medium nib was in new condition, and I traded for an XF. (btw, I'm much happier with the pen now!)

So much ink, so little said...

Nib exchange costs money?? I am in the process of a nib exchange and I was told it's free!?!? My FP is still in Germany.

According to the warranty booklet that came with my new Boheme, it said free nib exchange within 1 year IIRC.

It was $10.00 for my Parker 100, which covers shipping and handling, the actual repair work was free.

There is no charge through a boutique for the first year on a nib exchange.

I called awhile back to see if Montblanc would do a nib exchange of a Dumas that belonged to a Judge I worked for and the sales lady said it wouldn't be a problem. As for cost, she said MB "might" include an invoice for shipping costs, but she doubted it. (She was right, there was no charge for this nib exchange, though they did have to send the pen to Germany because it was a LE nib)

What really surprised me was after I explained to her that the nib was used a lot over a two year period she told me that she has seen nib exchanges for nibs over 20 years old for no cost! (As long as the nib is not scratched up)

I personally prefer to deal directly with USA MB customer service, sounds like the botiques charge for everything!

I was told two weeks of purchase a nib exchange can be done and the nib has to be defect free. Thus, MB won't nib exchange for a broken nib, but for nib size you don't like. Sounds like there are different policies out there . . .

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
