Thanks to new ink in my M200, I LOVE my FP

I'm thinking of getting either an M600 or a CS 58. he finish on the CS is gorgeous, but the Pelikan seems really nice too, if a little conservative in colouring. If i could get hold of the cities limited edition Pelikans, I'd probably buy them all!

What other options are there that you;d recommend at around 200GBP? Thanks in advance :)

Hi Jounetsu,

A Stipula Etruria Blue Back Swisher SE or Orange Black Swisher SE. They should cost well below 200 GBP by the time they reach you, including shipping, tax and duties. Then there is the Nuda as well, of course...

You can find Swisher Pens here: Swisher Pens Web Site, Stipula Page

Another intersting site for Stips and other Italian pens is Giardino Italiano: Giardino Italiano Pens Web Site, Sales Page

The advantage of the latter is that if you are a resident EU citizen, you don't pay duties and taxes, just shipping.

I am sure many people will come up with a very long list of pens well below that price point... :D

HTH, warm regards, Wim

Hi Jounetsu,

Wim is our resident Stipula Etruria maven, but I'm surprised he didn't mention the Etruria 991 which is on a super sale at the Giardino Italiano site that he gave you. It's got a ton of panache and, all kidding aside, is a fantastic buy at €229.00 which would put it under your budget of £200. Beautiful celluloid, great filling system, marvelous nibs and feeds. As good as it gets! :bunny1:

Several of us on this board have gotten them, mainly on Wim's recommendation, and we haven't been sorry. At least have a look at it in addition to the other Stipulas that he mentioned.

Don't forget to let us know what you decide. Knowing how others are spending their money is almost as much fun as spending our own. Well, almost! ;)

Hi Roger,

I guess you dodn't click on that Giardino link now, did you?

BTW, in Europe the 991 is 249 euros, due to VAT.

I was going to buy a CS 58 off the greenboard last week for about 100.00 USD. Used but had box and papers and only inked a few times.

I have been looking at the orange and black Stipula/Swisher Etruria. man they are impressive, I just wish that it was not a C/C filling system. Sooner or later I will get one!!!!

BTW

I have a Pelikan M600 with the blue/black stripes and a medium 14kt 2 tone nib. This is by far one of the smoothest nibs I have ever wrote with. I believe I bought it new off of ebay for about $140.00. Sometimes you can really get a good deal!!!

Hi Amin,

No need to ask for "pardon" at all. We all start using shorthand after awhile :D

CS stand for Conway Stewart and the greenboard can be found at the pentrace website.

www.pentrace.com There is a yellow message board and a green market board for folks who are buying and selling pens.

Hope this helps.

Karin

Pardon my ignorance, but what is a CS 58?  Also, what is the greenboard?

Conway Stewart 58, and the green board is pentrace's pen selling/exchange board.

Ooops: Karin already answered while i was typing.

that's so good to hear... glad you were able to resolve the problem so easily.

i'm partial to the 200/400 size. check out that stunner in my avatar. Ain't she a Honey!.) :)

I like the CS pens in general (in looks, never tried one) so i don't think you can go wrong with one of them. And I think I would like a 600 but like you would be tempted more to buy one of the cities. Specifically, the Piazza Navona is very tempting and someone was selling one for a very good price on the greenboard.

but I have a different pen in mind for my next purchase which is still a couple of months away. (sniffle)

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
