January meeting

Good evening FPNers! I'm scheduling the next FPN meeting for Saturday January 5th at noon. The meeting will be at ION in Middletown, which comes HIGHLY regarded. I'm going to need a headcount for the meeting BY JAN 2ND so I can arrange it with the restaurant. Everyone is welcome. We'll be unveiling the new logo for the GCFPS as well as getting a handle on our new organization. As always there will be tons of talk about pens, a show and tell of a few favorites and some swapping and selling. For those RFFers, bring a camera! Hope to see you there!

I was wondering why the Connecticut Fountain Pen Society is "Greater" than any others?

"Greater Connecticut" might be thought of as the parts you can get to from where you are. For such a small state, there are parts that are really out of the way and can only be reached circuitously. For instance, there's no easy way to get to Naugatuck from where I am. Not that I've found any reason to go there; I think I haven't been there since 1978.

Just a friendly reminder that I need a headcount by next Wednesday so I can set things up with the restaurant. Anyone planning on attending, please post it here so I can get an idea. Looking forward to seeing you all there!!

---------> ANNOUNCEMENT <-------------

Due to the amazingly underwhelming response to this months meeting and a lack of a headcount I have made no arrangements with the restaurant. Looks like I'll be working towards a February meeting. To make life easier, anyone who WISHES to attend a meeting please list your name here and your general availability.

Looking forward to meeting with you all!

Best,

Jay

I didn't respond to this notice (by January 2nd) because I already have plans this Saturday (January 5th). However, please continue to post the CT meetings because I would still like to participate. Stay warm, Nutmeggers! :)

Talking about fountain pens is like dancing about architecture.

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

      Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

      I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
