My first pen club meeting. There was another first timer - David. Another David -David Isaacson - was there with many pens including a case of Jade Green pens. Ron Zorn also showed us lots o' pens. And that was just at my end of the table...

We took the photos after some people had left already (sorry).

Turns out Napthali is also from Rochester so we convoyed driving back to Rochester but I had to exit 'cause I needed to get gas.

I saw two Wahl pens I wanted - so beautiful I don't even care if they write...

Really glad you could join. Couple folks left by time of the pic, but it was our first meeting to pull ten people.

Until next month...

Oh yeah, since you seem to like later Doric and Coral color, here are a few for you to enjoy

You know I was going to surprise you all and show up. Had a committment come up though. Shame, would have liked to meet you all.

Cheers,

Sean (who needs more notice next time)

PenRx is no longer in business.

Wow - I want to come someday! I'll bring my, um, 6 pens . . . :D

I didn't know there was a pen club so close to me.

I remember driving past the exit to Ithaca on the way there...I still think you live in Iowa....

David i, I'm really glad I finally attended. It was good to meet all of you. Can't wait till the next one.

I wish I still lived in the Syracuse area, so that I could join in the fun. In the meantime, GO ORANGE!!!!

I wish I could have gone -- it looks like it was a great time. I'm brand new to FPs, and this meeting might have been quite instructive.

I, too, live in Rochester. Do you typically hold these the second Tuesday of the month? If so, I may hardly ever be able to go.

Thanks for the pictures. That was great fun, and it was great meeting people with so much more knowledge and experience than I have.

That coral and Doric eye candy is great. I'm still marveling over the case of case.

Hi David,

Are you keeping MY Amethyst Doric safe?

Liedermann,

Had no idea there were other FP people in Rochester!

Maybe we'll get a really big group next meeting!

Indeed, the Doric is safe. Why am I nervous? Or do I feel guilty? I did get it from someone in Rochester... The celluloid is beautiful but the nib makes me want to use it. Actually I'm putting the wear and tear into my Waterman 52 at the moment.

I'm off to Florida in January--for work (he says defensively, with 10 inches of fresh snow outside)--but if there's a meeting in Feb. I'll be there. If I find another Amethyst Doric I'll let you know.

Hi,

Tuesday seems to be most popular day, but we do the occasional Saturday night in winter. Not quite every month, probably one every 6 weeks or so.

Don't worry I won't be buying any Wahls soon. I just passed up a Parker. Must con-cen-trate... Just Watermans. And maybe Sheaffers... and...

have fun in Florida!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
