Waterman 3V

Dillo

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I got the Waterman 3V and I have to say that it fits into my hand perfectly. (I hold the pen right at the thin gripping section)

I have to say that it is the perfect size.

Thanks TMann. :)

More later...

And how does she write, D, how does she write?...

Enquiring minds and all that. (Hmmm, or is it Inquiring? That's always confused me.)

I will test her when I get to my ink in November. Hold on Tntaylor. :)

Meanwhile, I will write you a snail with one of my newly modified pens to keep you on the line.

Its a flex isn't it? I'm not very good with flexes. And I wouldn't care to get one. However, tell us how it writes as soon as you get the ink.

Hang on... You haven't got any ink? Or are you holding out for a particular color?

Hi,

No, I have 30 bottles. (Read "30 nearly full bottles")

They are on display in the Cumberland Public Library for the whole of October.

Glad to hear that the Waterman 3V fits your hand, Dillon. I have one myself and it's a nice writer.

As for the ink display at your library, that is very cool. :)

Is the theme of the display fountain pens and ink or just ink or...?

Hi,

It is both pens and ink. It is behind a display case with a few handwritten pages about myself and a few faq sheets. My ink sample sheets are also there.

Does anyone know if all the Waterman Vs are this size?

Maja, what nib do you have? my nib is a flexible. Does anybody know what the pen (cap, barrel, feed, nib, and grip) is made of?

The V in the name of the 3V stands for being the short model, but different V's are different sizes. I believe a 52V would be around the same size as the 3V but a pen like a 56V will be bigger since the 56 is a bigger pen than the 52.

I believe the 3V and similar Waterman's from the 30's were made out of celluloid. There are some gorgeous celluloids used by Waterman during that time. The nib is 14kt gold and should work wonderfully. The Waterman nibs are usually my favorites although when I want a nice firm fine, Sheaffer's are always nice. The feed should be made out of BHR but I could be wrong.

Congrats on a great little pen.

Hi,

It is a great pen. Now, I am debating over sending it to Daniel Kircheimer for some new nickel plating.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
