Waterman converters don't seem the same to me. They seem to have a higher quality collar.

Hi,

The new convertors are now exactly the same shape and size except for a few things like different sized tips, different engravings, and the smoked color on the Parker. The collars are the same now.

I'm not astonished with Parker, Rotring and Waterman now being the same, as the companies are owned by the same group, and the same factory (Waterman) makes all (?) the high end pen. That seems logical business-wise to consolidate.

Can Rotring and Waterman converters be used in Parker pens, or do they just share a lot of parts? The cartridges, to my knowledge, are not compatible.

Hi Dillon,

Parker and Waterman converters, although made in the same factory, are NOT compatible, or the same for that matter.

The only converters compatible with each other are international size converters, although different brands do not necessarily fit into each others barrels.

On some Waterman pens an international converter will work, like the Pelikan one. I am thinking specifically of some of the early CF pens (yes, here is the replacement converter for those hard to get original ones :D, provided the barrel is wide enough to accommodate them; use a single layer (yes, 1 and 1 only!!!) of teflon tape around the bottom part, not covering the nipple, to make it seat sturdily), and some of the newer models, with barrels wide enough to accommodate them.

The nipple shape of Parker and Waterman converters is not the same, and neither is the diameter of the hole, or the receiving end in the section for the nipple.

I'll post a pic if I manage to get around to making one in the first place, this weekend (I do have to work, unfortunately, so I'll see how things work out). I can't show a pic of a Rotring converter, though: I simply don't have one: I am not into Rotring pens. I can show a few Lamy converters instead :D.

Warm regards, Wim

Hi,

The only parts Rotring, Waterman, and Parker convertors share are the piston knob, piston rod, piston rubber, collar, and screw ferrule. The restof the stuff follows the same shape, but has a different color or shape. Waterman and Rotring convertors will not fit in Parker pens and vice versa.

The very newest Waterman convertors have a different collar than the original. It has a similar collar to the Parker and Rotring convertors.

Well, I just want a size comparison because the Rotring and Waterman convertors fit better in some slimmer pens.

Hi Dillon,

While at work today, I took some pictures. I´ll try to photoshop them tonight and post them. Probably in "Other Reviews". I´ll let you know.

I see you want measurements, too, now . Ummm, my micrometer, or whatever it is called, is still lost in the hodge podge of things from my study, when it got flooded at the end of July. It isn´t one of the things I use a lot, so it is still in a box somewhere, not yet unpacked. I´ll see what I can do with a regular ruler, but don´t expect much from this exercise.

Warm regards, Wim

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
