For those interested, I'm looking for an alternative to the Lamy 2000 so the price shouldn't be more than a new L2k. I guess this would then depend on the condition of the 88.

I like the 88's too. In good writing condition, these consistently go for about $150.00. IIRC, the L2K's sell for about $100.. the 88's I've seen at around this price and lower really would not be pens you'd want to get involved with because by the time you get them in optimal writing condition, you'll have spent the $150 or more it would have cost to buy one in great shape anyway, not to mention waited for a few months in the process. On the vintage 88's or 88 P's, you need to inspect them closely for leakage, hairline cracking, etc.

 

Not trying to put you off.. these are lovely pen and wonderful writers when in good shape. But if you see one for cheap.. beware!
