Can we set up a temporary internet shelter for those of us who.......oh!.....wait a minute......6pm......EST?

Then I'll be asleep over here! [bIG sigh of relief]

Be strong everyone. We can stand a 4 hour outage. Just take up your fave pen and write your provocative posts longhand and snail mail them to Rhudairi at MT. Keep you busy for 4 hours and he will have extra fuel for the furnace as he burns the censored material mumbling "anathema, anathema" :roflmho:

But what happens if it goes longer? 6 hours? 12 hours??? a week?

Looking forward to the improvements the new server will bring as well as the relief to the Admins it will be in a (hopeful) reduction in IT problems!

THANKS and hope it goes well!!!!

Sheesh, you think they'd at least wait until the Friday of the Columbus Pen Show so those folks going to the pen show will at least have some other pen-related activity to keep us, er - them - occupied!

While you were nappin'
I just went out for a snack
I was feelin' famished
And then I vanished...
But now I'm back

Don't sweat it. MT is in charge. Ernst has the changeover plan well in hand and is already busy welding the new pipes. The Babbage will be a far superior server (as long as the coal supply holds out) to anything with Intel chips and we will all get used to the new posting protocols and decorative fonts.

It would be nice if the Admins posted before and after photos of their coiffures as I expect they will be pulling much of their hair out.

Is the current server the cause of brief "outages" I've been experiences at least once a day? I click on a post or thread and it grinds and gives me an error page. I try once more and still no forum. I go off and do something else for a few minutes and come back to a working forum again.

or am I just jinxed?

We believe that these outages are due to the current server.

Whew...I'm not the only one. I was convinced I had been deemed not worthy of posting anymore! I learned to copy all text before posting/replying/backchanneling so I wouldn't lose all my text. Prior to figuring this out, I lost a few long-winded posts...probably for the betterment of all.

Thank you for working to improve an already wonderful place!!

KJ, does that mean that you are going to suddenly "find" those long lost long winded posts and share them with us? :crybaby: :crybaby: LOL

I like our fellow FPN'ers too much to subject them to those late night ramblings. :P

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
