Still sending good thoughts and contracting prayers out. I guess you guys will read that after you can go back home.

I just had a chance to look at the board today.

Denis says it all.

Good luck, best wishes, and my prayers are with you.

Voluntarily booking it outta there sounds like the best plan, especially if you do have somewhere to hole up for a while. And yeah, definitely take the critters. :-P Good luck.

And I didn't have the heart to tell her why.
And there wasn't a part of me that didn't want to say goodbye.

Hey Everyone,

Found a computer to borrow this evening and wanted to tell all you FPN people thank you for your thoughts and prayers. We all came out fine. Our 13 year old cat, which fell deathly ill the eve of our exodus, will have to remain with the vet here and a decision will have to be made Monday. Although we missed the bullet in my hometown, and the only dread now is fighting traffic to get back home, I know others were not so lucky. I hope all goes well for them and theirs. Thanks again, and I hope to get back into a regular swing with the board real soon.

Kcat (when you get home),

I had just started to find pens on the Strand in Galveston and glad that they will still be there for the hunt.

Russ,

Good to hear from you. So sorry to hear about your cat. :( Hope things turn out alright in the end, for you and your family.

We have friends with a small baby who left their home in Houston before Rita hit, and I hope they don't have a lot of trouble getting back, either; at the best of times the little guy doesn't like riding in the car

Best wishes,

~Maja

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
