Has anyone got a solution to my pet Vector hate?

I have used Vector FP's regularly for 3 years. Unfortunately it's been my main/only pen when I do this and the cap wears the plastic clutch ring just above the nib. After 6 months the cap won't stay on & I have to stop using the pen.

I've got 6 Vectors (2 black & 4 blue) and a Black/gold Rialto with this problem. Does anyone have a solution? I've considered turning up a brass clutch ring, but can't think of a way of attaching it to the section.

This June I realised how much I was spending on Vectors with this problem and revamped my P61 to avoid the expense. [Then having found the FPN in July, I've ended up spending heaps more on pens... but that's another story]

As for colours, in Darwin Airport (Australia) Duty free in 1996 I saw a beautiful metallic flecked rich blue Vector FP. I wanted to get it there & then, but reckoned it would eventually be sold in the UK. Never happened. Oh well.

Regards

Richard

I have found this rapid wear of the ring a big problem as well, especially on Frontiers. Its basically bad design, why the type of clutch ring on the 45 or 51 is not used I don't know as these take years of wear and especially in the case of the 45 very easy to repair anyway. The Profile may last longer as the ring is metal so most of the wear will be in the plastic cap rather than on the ring but we will see. I did wonder if you might be able to bend the plastic outwards with a specially shaped tool heated to the right temperature but this is a tricky and risky operation as the temperature must be just right.. Best thing I guess is to replace the nib section with the ring.

Hi to everybody, I am starting my collection of Parker Vector Fountain Pen. Any advice you can give me? I already have like 10 pens, but I want them all. I saw already around 70 different models and I won't stop until I will get them. Greetings.

I have one colorful one, of skateboards; it's my only medium and has KWZI Grapefruit in it. The wet medium gives that beautiful dark red/orange color. It's a British one, iirc.

Then I have 2 USA blacks and 1 Luxor in that gold-ish brushed metallic, all fines.

It's hard work to tell which is Old Harry when everybody's got boots on.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
