Ohio Pen Show Updates: Exhibitors; Seminars; Displays

We have a couple of updates to the list of Exhibitors:

Somehow when proofing the list we managed to miss that Steve and Maryann Zucker had been left off. A major oversight as they are regulars at the Ohio Show with three tables. They will be offering the opportunity to "test drive" Signum pens and always have an interesting selection of limited editions, etc. at favorable prices. Watch for them on the wall inside the main ballroom.

John Corwin will be taking a table but Tom Zoss will not have a table(he is hoping to attend as a weekend registrant).

Barbara Binder WILL be assisting Richard. They are a team and I should not have left her name off the list! I thought it was interesting last year that weekend registrants lined up at 8 am on Sunday morning at Richard's table for nib work.

We neglected to indicate that the James Partridge on the list is THE Partridge in the Pear Tree Pen Company. James hails from Ann Arbor, Michigan and is one of the hardest working exhibitors I have seen. He will have two tables.

Pen Collectors of America will have a full table at this year's show. Members will be able to have questions answered, member status checked and pay dues as necessary. Non-members will have an opportunity to ask questions and consider membership. Those signing up as new members at the show will receive 3 back issues of PENnant magazine and a member badge on the spot!

We will have a special display of Conklin Nozac pens at the PCA table. Be sure to check it out! We also plan to have a of display of RARE pens including a PARKER AZTEC EYE DROPPER PEN!!!

PCA will hold a general membership meeting on Friday evening at 8 pm following the annual pizza party. New board members will be introduced.

PCA will offer a workshop on Saturday, November 3, 12 noon. The workshop will be lead by board member Linda Bauer. This is being offered under the PENS FOR KIDS project. Attendees(kids and adults are invited) will learn about the history of fountain pens and will generally explore the pen collecting hobby. Jack Leone, Bexley Pen Company, will show how Bexley pens are made-try your hand at assembling pens!!

PLEASE MAKE YOUR HOTEL ROOM RESERVATIONS ASAP. CUT OFF DATE IS OCTOBER 17. CALL THE CROWNE PLAZA DIRECT, TOLL FREE, AT 866-372-5566.

Those flying in and needing shuttle service from the airport to the hotel, please send your day/time of arrival AND day/time of departure to me by email. We will put you on the shuttle schedule and then get back with you on the shuttle info the Monday of show week.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
