Saw today in a shop window the new Lamy Studio in a pearl white finish and with the same gold nib as the palladium version . The section was the usual slippery chrome plated one ...

It's a shame about the chrome grip. I bought the Studio Stainless Steel specifically because it had the black grip. When will they learn???

This is actually a 2006 or 2007 (I can't remember which) LE pen. It's probably NOS as the White Pearl didn't sell too well, but I think it's quite nice.

The sword is mightier than the pen. However, swords are now obsolete whereas pens are not.

It was probably new when the thread was created in 2007. ;)

Don't think this is a new edition. It was a special edition from a few years ago. I really liked the white studio but it must not have been very popular at the time as they stopped making it. More companies are bringing out white pens now like the S.T. Du Pont Caprice, the Caran d'Ache Dunas and the Porche 3140 mini shake pen, maybe they should try it again.

As Silvermink so correctly observes, have a look at the date of the first post.

Err.... Don't you mean "complements"?

You have to remember that chrome is highly reflective...

I let this old thread resurrect because today I found a Pearl White studio in the local shop. 50 euro, F nib in dual-tone gold.

It is my first studio, I was still deciding if I like the chrome section or not (I have mixed feelings for my Pelikan Pura, which has a similar body) but this one was just too beautiful.

Nice find, especially at that price! I paid considerably more for mine on eBay a month ago!

That's an absolute steal!

Thank you for the comments! After some days of usage, I can say that I love the gold nib. Has character and springs, much more than the usual steel nibs. It reminds me of some Auroras from the '90s, like Marco Polo or Magellano.

The section is not so comfortable, to me, if I hold it with my fingers near the nib, like I do with other pens. It gets much more comfortable if I hold it some cm above.

Have you used a Lamy 2000? I'm curious how you think this gold nib compares to the Lamy 2000's gold nib.

Yes, I can compare it, because I have a Lamy2000 (about year 2005) with F nib. It feels different, very much different.

The nib of my 2000 is more flexible and the line varies with pressure, from middle-thin to almost a stub.

The golden nib of the pearl white Studio has some line variation, more than the steel nib of the Safari/Al-Star-other Studios, but less than the 2000.

I'd say, the nib of the 2000 is similar to the old Lamy 80 nib, for example, but not at all to the one of the Studio, even in gold.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
