In today's mail....

The high point of an otherwise completely crappy day of work was an extremely poorly wrapped padded envelope in my stack of mail. I get plenty of packages there, and I always love to see a package from the UK. Almost always guaranteed to brighten a person's day. :)

I won an auction lately that was fairly poorly worded. The picture was, of course, blurry and dark beyond compare, but I spotted a gem. What rolled out of the padded envelope was a nice Relief 3-L in Lapis. Unforunately, the clip is wrong, but it's all there, no cracks, light brassing and that nice big #3 14kt nib. A perfect companion for my Lapis 3-S button filler. :)

Off to fix it up. It seems like it's been a loooong time since it was used. I hate to keep that trend going. :)

Any other #3 (or better yet, #4) owners?

Best-

Brian

Forgive the rotten pics, but this'll give you an idea:

The top one is a Relief 3-S button (stud) filler. Unfortunately, this one developed a crack in the barrel on me. I was very sad that day. :( The bottom pen is the new Relief 3-L. No cracks but wrong clip. I suppose I could swap caps, but the 3-L has the red band and the 3-S does not. I'll leave them for now. :)

A shot of the 3-L open. The model 3's are a pretty good sized pen. The color seems brighter in the picture than it is in real life, but it is still a pretty color.

Enjoy!

Nice addition, Brian! When you say "wrong clip" do you mean that someone substituted a later clip or even another model's clip?

Thanks for the photos--your Relief collection is getting too big for photos!

Thanks Dan! My pics are really crummy and were taken with minimal light. The clip is completely wrong, from another pen, in steel rather than GF, etc. But, being washer style, it is nice to have a clip that actually works well.

That's actually one tray of almost four that are all Relief. Most are BHR or BCHR, so there isn't much to look at on a "wow" scale like those marbled plastic ones. :)

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
