No, it's not you. That thing does look hideous. Just another shameless Chinese knockoff.

incredible 100% positive feedback for this seller. Do always people know when they buy fake ?

Not always. Some people may buy into it thinking they got a good deal on a name-brand item and not realize it's a fake until later. I think most pen enthusiasts are savvy enough to know it's a counterfeit Parker when they see the pics and won't take any interest in it, but there may be a few who know it's fake and will still buy it out of curiosity.

Personally, I despise sellers who try and peddle counterfeit items just to make a quick buck as much as I despise the makers, but that's capitalism for you. You've got to take the good with the bad. All you can do as an individual who appreciates quality writing instruments is to not buy these knockoffs and educate newbies to stay away from them as well. These copies, no matter how close to the originals they may look (such as the Parker knockoffs from Hero), will never have the same quality as the original. To me they're just cheap ripoffs.

always a matter of personal viewpoint definitely, Apollo. I am disinterested in the issue basically. I don't like people who lie and won't buy from them. There is even one well-known seller who does sell quality pens, but hypes a lot of pens as "rare" when they are not. I have, thus far, not been tempted by that person's auctions even when looking for that specific item. it offends me for some reason. I guess because they are so well-known and successful on e-bay so it seems there's no reason for them to b.s. people.

at the same time, Frank Dubiel (RIP) was very proud of his stash of cheap MB rip-offs that he kept on hand (so I hear) at shows to prove to people that cost and advertising hype do not equal quality. I think he sold them for $10 a pop or something but of course with absolute openness that these were fakes.

I have handled a number of the fake MB's and some of them are actually very well made and perform very nicely while the fake Sonnets I have seen have often looked good but been poorly made and shoddy performers.

Hero is another story as they make no pretense that their pens are anything else but Heros and some companies that are now highly regarded (such as Aurora) got their big start by making copies of pens like the 51.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
