pen nib manufacturers

In an earlier post, I noticed that Conklin pens used Bock nibs. Now that Conklin and Monteverde are made by one company, and the have interchangeable nibs, does that mean they still use Bock nibs?

I buy some pens just because they have some historical interest to me. Thus, my 2015 Conklin Durograph purchase. And I know they are made by a company who produces several kinds of pens. It would be good if there was a listing created, and updated, showing the master companies, the brands each produce, and source of their nibs and feeds, and whether these were interchangeable with other brands (inside or outside those made by the master company).

Finally, I do not see where Indian nibs and feeds are made. Several Indian feeds have bodies similar to Noodler Konrads and Ebonites. So it would be interesting to know, given the limited production of Noodler nibs and feeds, if substitutes could safely be purchased from India.

Thx all for any replies.

There are two Indian nib manufacturers:

AMBITIOUS (Used by FPR, Deccan, Gama, Ranga, ASA, Parker India, Noodlers and other)

KANWRITE (Noodlers, FPR, etc)

Just for having the info in this thread as well: Nettuno is owned by Aurora, and the Nettuno Docet has Aurora-made nibs.

I recently spoke with someone experienced on the subject. I was considering several different pens to buy. He suggested not to buy a Visconti, because in the same price range Aurora or Pelikan has better nibs. I do not know, whether this is true or not as i have no experience with Viscontis and only tried my wife's Pelikan (and I liked that). However it's interesting because Bock is the nib supplier for both Visconti and Pelikan. Do they ask for different quality Bocks or does Pelikan have much better quality control?

I can’t answer patrisz’s question, but I can add to the thread in terms of yesteryear. Esterbrook always made their own nibs, that’s how they started out, as a nib maker before fountain pens. Another dip pen maker, Turner & Harrison tried to get into the gold plated, lower end market with the Regal line, including a short-lived line of ink wells and dip-less-like dip pens with feeds, but it never went far.

Pelican nibs are made in-house

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
