To further the question, Rick, why can't they make it up to Cambridge for Breakfast once a month? :) You guys and gals are so close and KW is central between London and TO it just makes sense. We have a great time, greasy food, and some strange brown liquid which vaguely resembles coffee. Oh yeah, lots of talk about pens as well.

Cheers,

Sean

look for me at the Detroit show, I won't tell you how to recognize me, but look for me anyway. :) Nah, just kidding, there is a picture of me in the TO show thread. Not a great picture, but it is an image of me that is fairly representative.

PenRx is no longer in business.

3 tables to fill up with pens, ink (LOTS of ink) and paper and journals.

James

PS to P2P: You've obviously never met me if you're still calling me a "gentleman!" :)

slim budget, but looking for ink, so will come visit your tables... & now am prepared in advance for "whatever";)

btw... is the velo notation for velocipede? (sp)

Don't worry about the budget; I'll have plenty of low cost items to tempt you - Pelikanos and Safaris as well as barrels of ink, and, of course, pads and journals to use with the pens and ink.

And yes, in answer to your question, The Ann Arbor Velo Club is a group of bicycle racers - velocipede riders, if you will. :)

James

So here's what happened
While you were nappin'
I just went out for a snack
I was feelin' famished
And then I vanished...
But now I'm back

I have to talk this over with SWHTM.... just checked expedia and I can get TR from DC including the hotel (at a lower rate) for $298.00 arriving Thursday evening and returning Saturday night....

Won't go for a table, but will bring a lot of trade goods...

I need a mini vacation... LOL.... and this would be less expensive than the Columbus show for me... since I don't have enough stuff to sell for a weekend table..

I will be at Detroit.... got permission from SWHMBO and just booked my flight and hotel...

Got a better rate from Expedia on the hotel than the hotel would give me... my wife is great at finding those things..

Should arrive Detroit about 2:30 Thursday and leave on Sunday morning....

Look for me at Pear Tree Pens table... I will be helping Jim and selling some of my stuff also...

OldGriz at Detroit? I read that and figured I would cancel my plans to go because he will buy all the "51s" before I get there. :crybaby: THEN I read that he will work at James' tables. Good. That'll keep him busy for a while. James, please do not let OldGriz go out from behind the tables until you see me give you the thumbs up on Saturday.

I'll be there. Another newbie, probably just scouting for ink though. Was gonna look for a pen, but decided I need a second shotgun instead. I'm a little worried that the pen show may dazzle me spending my gun money on a nice pen, but I've been meaning to go and couldn't make the past two years, so I'll go anyway. If I lose out on the rest of the shooting season to a nice Pelikan, I'll be irked.

Why do I have to have so many expensive hobbies?

Show Newb question.

Of course, there's scouting, shop, try & buy, chat...

But are there any programs, lectures, demonstations?

Am told there'll be resaccing supplies, might there be a mini-session on resac of an easy basic, like estie?

or is that far too basic to be included in a pen show?

Any specific show etiquette that we should be aware of?

Thanks,

p2p

And do you really think Jim is going to be able to stop this old bear if I want to go shopping...

The only show etiquette that I would suggest is that you should start you scouting, shopping and try and buy and especially chatting at the Pear Tree Pens tables....

If there is no program on resacing an Estie, come see me and I will talk you through it... no big deall..

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
