Suggest me a good 0.7 mm Pencil

Hello,

I am upgrading my pencil which is a cheap .9mm pencil which I use for my math based problems / university work. When doing math stuff I put more pressure to my pencil than when just writing regular text lines.

I found the 0.7mm and 0.9mm pencils work quiet well. But I cant find a model that I really like. What I am looking for is pencil that looks like the Parker Insignia black laque with gold trims. Also I really would like the pencil to have a pres mechanism because I do not like the twisting mechanisms which tend to twist back during writing.

In fact if I could get the Parker Insignia in 0.7mm this would be my ideal pencil. But if you know any good look a like I am very interested. Thanks.

I cannot help with the Insignia look alike part, sorry. A Lamy Safari mechnical pencil is an inexpensive, durable writer with a press mechanism. The Safari body is plastic, so the pencil is light, but still nicely balanced. It would be available in plain black.

My favorite contemporary pencil is the Duofold. It has a twist mechanism that is bullet proof. This pencil has some weight to it, and it is nicely balanced. It is very durable, and it looks great. It would be available in black with gold trim.

Good luck.

You might want to check out Caran d' Ache. I have the Ecridor Retro pencil and it is brilliant. They have a Madison, as well, which comes in black and gold that looks very spiffy. If you go to their website and look under Office Supplies, you can also see a pencil called Metal, which I have seen in some pretty cool colours. It is a very sturdy pencil.... I think I need one of those now, too. Good luck.

Why, sometimes I'd like to take a switchblade and a peppermint and a Cadillac and throw it all in a fire.

Metal from Caran d'Ache is excellent pencil. I have one in 3mm width, and will get every single width next time I'm in the store. Another great looking (and performing) pencil is the new Rotring Newton series. You can't go wrong with Faber Castel pencils either...

Pelikan D200.

I think it is overkill for a working pencil, but to each there own....

If you wish you can puruse Pencity.com as they list the mechanical pencils in a group and you can quickly look at them by lead size.

My personal favorite in the 0.7mm size is the eminently practical and readily available Pentel Sharp. You could buy eleven of these for the price of one D200 and since I have over twenty five years on my 0.5mm earlier model (black P205). I would guess that would be a life time supply.......

Best of luck.

p.s. if you want to go $17.50, take a look at the Pentel Kerry Sharp.... My personal favorite in 0.5mm BUT the plastic deteriorates and it breaks off at the threads at the nose cap after a couple of years. Hopefully they have improved the plastic as I see they no longer sell the Brown I was buying. Now that they are offering 0.7mm in Blue, I might go for one of those myself, hmmm.........

YMMV

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
