Sharing some pictures of a new model by the Airmail Pen Company APCO located in Mumbai. They call it simply the 71JB. But I think it needs an appropriate suffix to differentiate it from the regular 71JB. I think 71JBRCC should describe it well. R for regular filling (ED) CC for cartridge converter.

This pen has a new design on the cap tube and needless to say has a three in one filling system. The RCC.

It comes in a black cardboard box.

A fancy ink dropper is included.

With the normal 71J in centre.

I have self modified the 71J to take the Schmidt FH452.

fpn_1601624359__d1a6184a-e98d-485d-a9d8-

The new nibs are very smooth. Lovely writers.

The nibs have no marking, I would have loved the Airmail stamping on them. I feel this is a welcome positive step and makes the RCC option more accessible on an already lovely pen.

Cheers

Hari

Looking forward to being able to get this pen in the US. i think this was a very smart move by Airmail.

agreed. I hear from the distributor that this pen has been very well received in the Indian market and is already sold out. I hope some or the other retailer picks up this model and offers it internationally as well.

I have seen them listed, for at least a short time, at Penhouse. But since it is virtually impossible, as of yet, to get anything internationally shipped all I can do is wait. I have seen this design in the similar Click models and have been tempted beyond belief to give these a try. Looking forward to when they get more readily available. I can see myself getting a couple since the Airmail colors and a CC system could be hard to beat.

Confusingly APCO has decided to name this new RCC model also as 71JB. The usual 71JB which is a regular filler is documented here

https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/index.php/topic/247167-airmail-wality-71jb-in-solid-colors/

Did you notice this new RCC version listed at penhouse? Can you pls share a link if possible. Thanks.

Just checked and the pens with converters are a model called "Starone Century" on the Penhouse website. At first glance, I thought they were Airmail/Wality pens. But these do seem to be the same as some Click models I have seen. Click is making several 3-in1 models including their ebonites. I was wondering if there is one producer of these pens and they are just rebranded?

Airmail and click are different, both are manufacturers. I have visited the Airmail factory in Mumbai several times. I recently watched a video showing Click's factory. So cross supply between these two companies looks less likely. I also saw the starone TIO model at penhouse, it's being sold very cheap, much cheaper than Click's entry level TIO model Aristocrat so I am really curious who makes it.

Now that looks nice especially packaging. The option of CC is great addition, 2 curiosity that pops in mind is

1- the nib looks a bit different from regular wality nibs and not just cos its not marked does it feel different in writing experience as well and somehow I get jowo wibes from nibs looks makes me extra curious could be attempt to attract other regions plus this looks like standard no 6 nib could be wrong but looks that way.

2- where to buy them from the naming does not help much either....... I think they should just add CC at end to make it more distinguishable.....too much confusion all over the place.

Anyway, they look very nice (all airmails do honestly) and the move to CC will definitely help airmail in long run.

Thanks for sharing them hari.

It is a Medium width nib, very smooth and a very nice, wet writer. Not a JoWo nor a Bock, the profile is different, the feeder and housing is totally different. Yes the nib is a no 6(35mm).

They are out of stock everywhere at the moment as far as I know, my friend who is active on the groups arranged these for me.

  • 4 weeks later...

The mod looks great and I feel dual tone looks great on this type of big pens with dark color.

May I assume that it was easier to replace the nib on this one then other wality due to having same nib size in stock nib (I could be wrong as I see feed being changed as well....)

Also what do you think, can the nib swap without feed change possible on this one....

Anyway looks nice with current get up especially in dual tone (personal opinion this one 😄)

Thanks Sagar. I just removed the stock M nib unit and installed the Bock BB nib unit. Stock converter was already a high quality Schmidt K7. I wish Airmail made this pen easily available. It’s real VFM in my opinion and looks good.

Thank you Hari. Actually I avoided buying this because of its new band design, I don't like it much. But after seeing your post, I think I must have one.

Oh. I liked the cap band. APCO have made a few cap band designs. Some are no longer seen.

Do let me know if you know of a place to where these are available to buy currently.  PM or email. thanks.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
