If you belong to a *very* select group there is an eBay item you might find interesting.

That group being smokers who own a Parker 75 Ciselé (spelling?) fountain pen.

I love vintage lighters, I've never been a smoker, but watching Mad Men and the beautiful lighters (Betty in particular had some nice ones) made me want to purchase some! I didn't, as there's little point to it, but gosh were those lighters stunning! And to me unusual designs (I'm used to seeing Zippo, BIC style and those long ones for lighting candles).

Lighters are interesting. Being a non smoker, I never needed one, but I do appreciate having a reliable fire starter for other purposes,

Not a smoker but nice find, perfect spelling. As for the price: ouch. Another good find would be the original lighter on which the Ciselé is based...

I read the Parker 75 was inspired by a cigarette case... so they later released their own Cisele lighter?? Interesting. Non smoker so limited appeal but a cool artifact.

edit- originally wrote lighter, and added reference.

I wonder if they made these in other patterns. If the price was a little lower I might buy this one and then the matching pen...

I am a smoker but if this is a reincarnation of the useless Flameinaire, then I wouldn’t give you $10.00 for it!!

Last Nov. my Brother fixed both Flameinaire I have.

I am not a smoker, but own a few lighters. I think I would like to buy a vintage Zippo lighter with the Parker logo on it, at the Ohio Pen Show, maybe in 2021, since I wont be going this year.

I've never smoked, but during my radio years I always carried a butane lighter in the winter. Sometimes the only way to open a lock to get through the gate to the transmitter building.

Speaking of the Parker Flaminaire, the key to getting use out of one of those lighters is to source the correct size Butabloc butane refill tank from Europe, where many Flaminaires were sold with valves that allowed the Butabloc to be easily refilled (a feature that Parker unfortunately elected not to include in their lighters marketed in the US). Beyond that, you may need to drill out the old decomposed flint to clear the tube and allow replacement, but if you have the skills to replace a pressure bar and re-sac a fountain pen, it's a fun and manageable little project.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
