That's much more to my taste than the Star Ruby (of which I bought one anyway, and handed straight to my wife).

I endeavour to be frank and truthful in what I write, show or otherwise present, when I relate my first-hand experiences that are not independently verifiable; and link to third-party content where I can, when I make a claim or refute a statement of fact in a thread. If there is something you can verify for yourself, I entreat you to do so, and judge for yourself what is right, correct, and valid. I may be wrong, and my position or say-so is no more authoritative and carries no more weight than anyone else's here.

Thank you for posting this. I've been looking at grey pens lately and just love the added excitement of the sparkles.

Like the Olivine, the gray is supposed to be a few different shades depending on the light.

PELIKAN - Too many birds in the flock to count. My pen chest has proven to be a most fertile breeding ground.

I really dont need this, especially as I have a M200 anthracite demo, but man those sparkly silver trimmed sets with matching edelstein ink are slick. Must resist!

Ah, go on! Its so nice and shimmery, and it goes well with the ink. And if tradition is followed, there is likely to be a matching ballpoint. Another set! You know you want it... 😛

Come on, we are all doing it...

Well, I'm of two minds about this. I like the color, and I like the glittery bit. But I'm not a big fan of demonstrators (I just tend to not like the look -- a lot of translucent demonstrators look cheap) and I suspect that it's going to be a really expensive pen for what it is -- I'll tolerate a demonstrator if it's a TWSBI or Noodler's pen. The price they'll be likely asking for this pen though? Not so much....

I have my M200 clear demonstrator inked now, it's been too long, too many pens.

I'm marveling at the extra fine which I paid extra for and it is worth it. Pelikan steel is underrated.

My better half wanted the Star Ruby and it looked waay better in person than in photos, but we didn't want to carry it back from our trip. Given the similar sparkling treatment, I pulled the trigger on this one. Using the Edelstein Moonstone was also an enabler. 2020 has been a grey pukey year, I'm hoping sparkles is an omen for the better.

We may have to fight for it.

That’s a nice sentiment, Peroride, but it looks to me as if the glittery bits are multicoloured, rather than being silvery, and I don’t think I like that ..... I’d quite like to be put right on that though!

I chose my user name years ago - I have no links to BBS pens (other than owning one!)

Tempting, but I think I’ve crossed the thresh hold of owning more pens than I can actually enjoy. There are just too many that never make it into the rotation. I should sell some off, but it looks like a buyers market right now.

My local dealer quoted me 103EUR as a pre-order (between US$120 and $125 at popular current exchange rates), which is to me reasonable for an M2xx. If I have it shipped to the US, I save (currently) 16% more, so just a little over $100, plus shipping (the cost of which depends on what else I order at the same time). If the street price in the US is going to be ca. $140 as suggested in the announcement linked above, it is for me a bit on the pricey side for what you get, especially when state and local sales taxes (VAT) are added.

EDIT:

I have the Olivine and the Smoky Quartz, as well as an M205 Demonstrator, and to my taste they definitely DON'T look cheap, but I have seen some colored demonstrators that do look a bit cheap. I have seen a Star Ruby in person, and it surprised me pleasantly (more of a shimmer than a sparkle), though I passed on buying it. I am going to take a chance on the Moonstone, based on the pictures.

I hear you. I am more of the tongue-in-cheek enabler type. I am slowly reaching saturation as well. I have most of the models and colors that interest me, and I dont want to reach that point where I start telling myself it is all too much, and I need start selling things off. Maybe better to leave a few pens out there in the wild for others to enjoy, or to acquire only when the conditions are perfect.

I'll probably get this one just because I really like the ink. The pencil-like quality of the color with some paper/nib combinations appeals to me. Now if I could just figure out what to do with that Edelstein Mandarin that will never get used...

I'm sure I will end up buying one of these — and most likely from La Couronne du Comte and not Cult Pens, even though I like them both as retailers and Cult Pens usually offer better prices on Pelikan pens (or Pelikan products in general) — but I'm just waiting to see when it would be most advantageous to 'package' or 'bundle' it with some other item or the same order, so that I can get 'free' international shipping by DHL on the entire order.

  • 2 weeks later...

It is a very dry ink, perhaps the driest I've used.

Some shading, but not quite as much as hoped.

I have a strange fondness for greys, yet this doesn't do much for me. The Star Ruby seems somewhat interesting though. And then there's that red M101N which calls to me too, though it'd be a bit redundant to have both.

And I didn't have the heart to tell her why.
And there wasn't a part of me that didn't want to say goodbye.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
