Extra Fine Nib Ink Review: Diamine Prussian Blue

 

This is review #33 in my series. Here's the YouTube video:

 

Post-recording notes: Shading was better in the review than during prior use - makes me think maybe it was because it was starting to run out of ink.

 

Cleaning notes: It likes to stick to the sides of things - like the sample vial and cracks or seams of the converter / pen. Agitation or a little rubbing with a Q-tip took it right off - no staining, just clinging.

Thank you for another good review! I'm not sure the colour quite reflects the real Prussian Blue (not as in the ink) in the images, though.

You're welcome! The image color is a little too grey (for the ink), but even so, I think you're right, the ink is more muted than the color itself.

 

Trying to get the color to show close to what my eyes are seeing is really the most frustrating part of doing ink reviews. (If I were a millionaire, I'd hire someone to take care of all that for me - and I probably wouldn't be doing ink reviews. :lol:)

Prussian blue seems identical/very close to both Aonibi and Akkerman.....

I wonder whose is the lazy, the fox or the dog? :P

Prussian blue seems identical/very close to both Aonibi and Akkerman.....

Thanks! It's very close to Akkerman #09's paler shades (e.g. from a dry nib). Aonibi is more blue.

 

Same. No hint of green in mine.

:) Yep, that looks about right. The green in my photo(s) is only in my photo(s), not my ink. :D

Just give me the Parker 51s and nobody needs to get hurt.

Sorry for the green scare! I'm not really seeing green on my monitor, but that doesn't mean much - sigh.

 

I'd say it's worth a try. And remember, pretty much everything dries fast in this nib. Aonibi and the R&K sketchINKs dry faster, but the first is kinda expensive and the second are difficult to clean. Either way, it's worth a sample (says the woman who has a hundred samples!). :P

This Prussian Blue matches my tastes perfectly. I have a small 30 ml bottle of it, but I must admit that I haven’t tried it yet. My small Diamine bottles are mainly used as comparison inks, I haven’t used them much for writing. But this one looks really tempting... enough so to dig through my stash to find my bottle and fill a pen with it.

I really like these moments of “Ooohhh... what a lovely ink” and then “Aaahh... but I have it somewhere...” :D

This Prussian Blue matches my tastes perfectly. I have a small 30 ml bottle of it, but I must admit that I haven’t tried it yet. My small Diamine bottles are mainly used as comparison inks, I haven’t used them much for writing. Thank you! I have numerous ink samples I haven't tried yet - I went through a phase of just getting every sample I liked the look of. :rolleyes: I'm sure the ink won't disappoint (unless its color does) - like most Diamine inks, it performs beautifully.

You're very welcome! I have a sample of Montblanc Royal Blue that I'm sure I'll get to eventually. That's cool that your clients buy you FP ink!

 

Someone sent me a sample labeled Akkerman #10, but I think either it was gone bad or labeled wrong as it's a strange green color. So Lapis will have to tell us how it compares to Diamine Prussian Blue. :)

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

      I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature.
