Trying to find the colour of my Conway Stewart Churchill. Anyone know what the numbers mean 631/028 mean?

There was a CS material color chart that showed all the various colors available including the color number. Thought I had a copy of it, but can't find it right now. However, found an old FPN thread with the color numbers (see post 1) and a color chart (see post 7). Don't think all the color numbers are listed.

For a non-LE pen, '631' means the pen is the 631st pen made with color '028'.

Have noticed a lot of ebay sellers of CS pens have misinterpreted this system as if the numbers represent a Limited Edition pen and advertise their pens as LE pens. Seems like a lot buyers have probably been fooled by this.

Thank you for the link to a list of colours. Unfortunately my colour is not listed. I’ve been looking round the Internet and I ‘think’ that maybe the colour of my pen might be called Rioja. It’s a very dark colour and looks wonderful.

You're welcome.

Yes, I think it is Rioja....remember that color now.

Enjoy that great pen.

Were you able to identify the color? Do you have more pictures of the pen? From the picture it looks like it might be bracken or bracket brown

Hi David,

Looks like you have pen # 28, made from colour 631, which on a list I have is indeed Rioja.

Here are some of the colour codes I've recorded:

602 OXFORD BLUE STRIPE 603 PATRIOT 604 HEATHER 605 AMBER 606 HONEY NOIRE 607 PURPLE AMETHYST 608 QUARTZ BURGUNDY 609 BRONZE 610 EMERALD GREEN 611 BUTTONFILL BURGUNDY 612 SILVER STORM 613 WOODGRAIN 614 QUARTZ GREEN 615 DARTMOOR 616 QUARTZ WHITE 617 CHERRY RED 618 OPAL 619 SILVER STREAK 620 CORAL GREEN 621 AMETHYST 622 SAPPHIRE BLUE 623 BURGUNDY BLUSH 624 FRESIAN 625 AZURE 626 BLACK WHIRL 627 PEACH MELBA 628 SCARLET WHIRL 629 ORANGE WHIRL 631 RIOJA 632 WALNUT 634 BRACKEN

Obviously, this is not an official list. Just one I've put together, but it sort of corroborates your pen colour code with the colour you think it is.

Love to see some images of the whole pen.

Cheers,

Malcolm

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
