Vacumatic Golden Web - Faded Cap

I noticed in several Vacumatic Golden Web images that the top of the cap below the clip has faded to a translucent orange. It is consistently the same faded color in different pens, although the size and shape of the fading is different. Is this fading the result of a caustic ink, or just the nature of the celluloid of the Golden Web Pen. I am hoping to find a reasonably priced pen, and want to be informed on the pitfalls of owning the pen. Thx

Mine shows no sign of this kind of degradation. I've owned it for around 8 years.

Good to know. Another pen to watch out for thx. I thought it may have been a special clear view feature. Any ideas on why it typically occurs at that point in the cap, instead of at the clip? Is this the thinnest area of the cap?

I am far from being an expert, but this type of decomposition seems fairly common. Just looking through auction sites, there are several listings that show this damage, which is a shame as the Golden Web is a beautiful pen.

Just checked my Junior Golden Web, no deterioration of the cap nor barrel. I own it for at least 10 years. However, I restored it and placed it in my collection cabinet, without ink.

 

The ink may be cause.

For what it is worth, Parker called these Brown Pearl Junior Vacumatics. The less recognized sibling is the Transparent Black version of the same series. There are two sizes Junior and Juniorette and a Junior pencil. Pens were $5.00, the pencil was $2.50.

Given the style of the pen, you would think Parker would have marketed under a more appealing name. It makes the pen seem like milk toast. The name is confusing as it is more descriptive of the typical golden pearl Vacumatic junior pen IMHO.
