Really Regretting Buying Magna Carta Elements

Recommended Posts

I bought a Magna Carta elements, jumping at the chance to get another pneumatic filler for sub $200 price. I waited a long time and had to follow up a few times to get my pen understandably because of the pandemic. I finally got the pen and it was a beaut. However this is not where it ends unfortunately. Upon trying to use the pen, it would not suck ink although there was a lot of bubbling. After a few days, I found the internal sac to be not affixed properly. Not wanting to risk voiding my warranty, I contacted them to see what they can do for me. Expectation: Either send me a new nib and sac unit or get online with a video show me how to do it. I do not have shellac at home and at this point not really that adventurous to want to attempt pen repair. However all I got was a lot of hot air and them claiming that they inspected it and it was fine, even telling me that i should leave the pen in the ink for 30 to 45 secs to let the ink get sucked up. I told them it does not work as I found the sac pops out even after trying to fix it.

After they knew this, they even stopped responding to my email and only resumed after i created a resolution case in PayPal. After this experience, I would say if you want a pneumatic filler just do yourself a favour, get a Wahl Decoband. I am happy with mine.

Dear Iowks,

I Just came across your post. I hope your still have the pen and the answer is simple. Change the nib if it’s a stock Magna Carta nib. The process involves removing the screw type nib unit and cautiously pulling the nib unit out of the sleeve and replace it with a new size 6 nib of your choice. The placing of nib and aligning it with the feed is a lil bit of headache but worth it. I would suggest you try with the size 6 nib that you already have before purchasing a new one. Hope it helps. Do let me know about the results.

Regards

VJ

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
