Recommended Posts

Anyone know what refills (sizes, brands, etc) would fit my Dunhill Sentryman rollerball pen please?

Below is a picture of the pen and refill.

It looks like a Parker-type ballpoint to me. Can't vouch for this site but here are some they say will fit a Dunhill. If you click the rollerball link you'll see those refills look quite different from yours. Lots of companies make Parker style ballpoint refills.

That is strange. When i bought the pen at a reputable online dealer her e in UK it was advertised as a rollerball and not a ballpoint? Have I been missold the pen?

There are ballpoint refills with gel or water-based ink that flow more like a rollerball than a traditional ballpoint (which have a pasty, oil-based ink). The Easy Flow label on your refill suggests that it is like the Parker gel refills and others advertised similarly. To be clear I am going entirely on the appearance of your refill. I know nothing about what the inside of your pen is like and what refills it can take. I'm not really knowledgeable about this but I do know there have been pens that can take a rollerball or ballpoint refill E.g., the old Parker Big Red ballpoint pens had two small pieces that attached to either end of a ballpoint refill so it would fit. If you don't use those pieces a rollerball refill will fit as well.

I cannot see the photo on your post but based on Anaxyrus's response your refill looks like something like this?

If that is the case, as he stated before it is a ballpoint but you can safely use a variety of gels in Parker (not Pilot :) ) G2 format.

I have a Kaweco Sport Roller (!) that came with Parker G2 compatible ballpoint refill. I use Schmidt's P8120 refill instead which is a shorter version of international size rollerball refill and is way much better than the original refill. But be careful, P812X refill does not fit every pen that takes G2s so you might want to try it first.

I do not know which pen you have, the ballpoint or the roller. Dunhill may called the pen a roller and yet end up using a G2 refill as in Kaweco Sport case and for most ordinary people this is no big deal. But we are not ordinary here when it comes to pens :D So the seller may simply not know any better.

Enjoy your new pen.

  • 1 month later...

Got some Parker gel refills and they fitted quite nicely. The plastic cap on top of the refills is about 1.5mm shorter than the Dunhill one but no issues.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
