Remembering Anthony (Aka Parkerduofold)

Recommended Posts

It was June around this time last year that FPN received word that one of the members had died as the result of an accident. We knew him as Anthony. Just wanted to remember him.

I think most members have seen his posts and gained something from the knowledge he shared. I still miss seeing his avatar.

Thank you for bringing that up. Yes, he is missed. I sometimes wonder what he would make of these strange days of covid lockdown...

I remember Anthony as well. I remember he borrowed some Esterbrooks, and I told him to keep them. Funny the things you remember. Those pens, the screen name, his quality of being ever helpful. Truly a loss.

Anthony was a special friend, a wise man who was always ready to help and advise.

I have to say that his disappearance and what happened later leaves me with more questions than answers, some things do not make sense.

Be that as it may, we salute the memory of a very good man.

Despite the fact that I am a recent member of this forum, I have for years browsed through threads that happened quite often to have a concise but cheerful response from Mr Anthony. They were always of a cheerful concision that befits a humble, altruistic veteran that he was.

May he have eternal peace.

Anthony was a friend who I got to know from corresponding with him. He was a good man with a wonderful sense of humor, and I miss him a lot. Thank you, Anthony for your friendship that ended too soon. Rest in peace, Anthony. RIP.

I've been thinking of him recently.

Sad when members disappear, more so when they're gone.

I do wonder whether his mum is still alive and how she's doing. I remember she was ill and in hospital but getting better when Anthony passed away.

Sometimes he answered my post in italian, and then asked me how was his proficiency in that language (it was good).

I miss his posts.

I have been thinking of Anthony yesterday, in my part of Mediterranean St Anthony was celebrated...

and for the first time I thought "how appropriate, it is June...” and than thought much more..

He and I used to poke at each other sometimes, all in fun. But he PM'd me one time when I hadn't responded for a couple of days, because he was afraid he had offended me somehow. I had to reassure him that it was just that I hadn't been on FPN for a few days (general attack of life) and that he hadn't said anything that would have upset me -- and that if he had he would have known it IMMEDIATELY.... ;) [People on FPN see the nice, refined, sedate, polite me; Facebook, OTOH? Oh you do NOT want to cross me on FB because I will have zero qualms about coming down on you like a ton of bricks.... Which is why I MUCH prefer being on here -- it keeps me in check and I don't turning into a raving "witch but spelled with a B"....

Yeah, miss him too. He was a true gentleman.

I appreciate your sentiment, Bernie. The last line of what I quoted really struck me. I'm not sure we really know each other all that well, nor even this person whom "we knew as Anthony." He was very polite, until he wasn't. He was generous and understanding and humble, until he wasn't. And if he is gone (I can't vouch for anything on the internet), then I hope that he is resting comfortably in the arms of his God and his family, whom he had told us he had tragically lost.

Jersey Boy. We were both from the Northeast. I teased him about the ParkerDuofold moniker because he became a fan of Lamy. And he was Anthony, never Tony.

His light shines on undiminished here, for many.

And tricks his beams, and with new spangled ore

Anthony (aka ParkerDuofold) is the reason I am still here posting on FPN.

I was hurt deeply by several remarks made by a fellow FPNer. I had decided "enough". I stopped posting.

Anthony, who had exchanged PMs with me a few times, took the time to reach out. He wanted to know what happened . . . the truth.

When I told him, in his own forthright way, he stepped out and "handled" the situation. While Anthony was kind and exceedingly generous - like most people here on FPN, he was protective and willing to stand up for the rights of others.

Anthony and I share a deep faith in our God. We expressed it differently. But we both knew the difference it made in our lives. I know without any doubt that he is with our Lord now, and that I will see him again in eternity.

(I apologize for offending anyone with my discussion of "religion". It is not my intent to create division here, merely to express my remembrance of a friend.)

All well said. His loss still bothers me. I hope he rests in peace.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
