Index Card Desk Holder

Levenger does have a bamboo box that can be used to hold note cards and pens.

I have one. It's got a pretty small footprint.

Closest option I have found but I want without the pen holder. Just a box stand for the cards.

Maybe a slightly larger foot so it doesn’t tip. Maybe a half moon style cut out at the top so it is easy to take up a card. Simple. Wish I could draw as I can see it in my mind.

Like an extra short or shallow card shoe with a spring-loaded back to serve as a card elevator when stood upright.

Edit: oops, wrong link

I’m getting excited now.

Maybe just be a little "different", and use a single-deck card shoe in its regular orientation on your desk?

Hmmmmm - may be worth a thought.

I also think that you might want to go vintage, there were items like that on every desk, as late as the early 1990's.

For vintage stuff, Etsy would be a good source, so is Pendemonium, alternatively you might want to ask My63, our very own Mike to make a custom box for you.

Thanks - I have tried etsy but no luck so far. Will take a better look. Make to order is becoming more likely.

I saw this at Muji today, and thought it could work.

It has the same footprint as this item in Kmart:

https://www.kmart.com.au/product/linen-pen-cup/2860310

but looks rather smaller, mostly because the former is transparent, but also because it only has half as much storage space for cards.

Both look likely to do the job. I picked up the bamboo one from Officeworks and it will be good for now. The insert was removable although in some other similar ones it is not.

But I still hope to find the perfect stand. The bamboo one with half moon cut outs for easy sliding of the cards, maybe a little less depth and a slightly shorter height. I don't want much, I know.

You have mentioned having the cards in profile instead of landscape. That means that they ought to fit into a business card display stand: short end of index card is 3", long end of business card is 3.5. I would hope you might find nicer options for business cards holders than for index cards.

True - but most are too short so the cards wont stand up without a backing.

The Levenger Note Card Bleacher, although it has spots for pens, who says you have to use them? Seems like the best available option and it is designed for 3 x 5 note cards.

Nice product but the pen part takes up extra space. I’m trying to have the smallest possible footprint on a somewhat crowded desk.

Appreciate everyone’s suggestions. Keep them coming if you spot something I may not have seen.

Things standing on end risk falling over. Whatever you end up with, I'd suggest adding weight to the base -- a metal plate, a marble tile, something.

Yes - thought of that. I thought ideally they could on about a 60-70 degree angle and the foot go back to be level with the top edge of the card (hope I explained that ok).

If you are looking for something that is, say, 3.25 inches wide internally and 4 inches high, then, rather than specifying the type of holder "index card" just search the generic. And accept that what you may find is sold as a candle holder or a soap holder or a small flower holder or whatever, what does it matter as long as it fits your needs?

Levenger's newest 3x5 card holder holds note cards, but seems designed for using the cards as reminders and not for storage of unused cards.

Very open minded. Even wandering through thrift stores etc looking at all options. I agree that the solution to my search will probably be something designed for a totally different purpose.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
