1920S Waterman Section Broken

I broke a piece off of the section for my 1920s Waterman #55, which is of course made of hard rubber. Its the cardinal red color, so that will make it harder to find.

I will search for a replacement, but I was wondering if there is any way to reattach the broken portion?

Hello, if the break is recent I have read that a good glue (I do not know the name now) will be fine, but with possible cutting in the future.

I glued a piece with urushi (I just broke the piece immediately) and to this day it is still intact.

You can look into loctite #480, which Rick Horne from the Southern Scribe repaired a cap lip crack on a bandless bchr duofold for me. He says it's good for hard rubber since it contains small pieces of rubber. Unfortunately to my knowledge it is only available in black.

 

It impossible to truly repair hard rubber cracks, but for the time being it may be something worth looking into.

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

      I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning.
