S F Bay Pen Posse Facebook Group Is Closed ("archived")

All because some people couldn't keep the politics out of it, and couldn't stop arguing about whether political "art" should be allowed, so the moderators just threw up their hands and said "we're done." The group is "archived" which means you can look at it (if you can find it) but no-one can post. What the hell good that is to anyone I don't know.

I had only been a member, and gone to a few SF pen posses, for a few months, so I suppose there are lots of people who are losing more than I am. Nevertheless, I am peeved*.

If someone does start a new SF Bay area Facebook pen group, I hope they will announce it here because otherwise I have no idea how anyone is supposed to find out.

*Please note, this is not the word I typed. The word I typed is commonly used to describe either being angry or drunk or urinated on -- and that word is what I am, not "peeved."

Yeah, I know the word you mean.... I've had it replaced by "peeved" too, at times. And "peeved" doesn't begin to reach the level of why I used the other word....

As for FB, I hate it with a passion. Largely BECAUSE of the politics, in general. But also because a lot of people don't understand how FB works (I do because my husband went to a lecture a few years ago on how FB deals with businesses -- and treats organizations LIKE businesses). And unless you go "like like like" every time you turn around, you don't necessarily see even posts from "close" friends filter into your feed (let alone your inbox).

Hopefully you can get the answers you need from someone out your way. But I don't blame the moderators from making the group go away, if that's what it was turning into. The problem is that it's likely either going to be an "open" or "closed" group; and if it's "open" they can't kick out the problem children.

Hey there! Franz here.

I created a new group for the SF Pen Posse. I wanted to make sure to have our little group and continue to have positivity. Before the group was archived, the admin posted it in the announcement.

Heres the link: https://www.facebook.com/groups/695644897895971/

Thanks very much for posting here.

Thanks,

Franz

Thanks, Franz. That info was cut off behind "read more" and I didn't click to read more. My bad. What I thought was that omission was responsible for a large part of my "peeved" state, and so it was for nothing.

As for Facebook as a venue for interest groups, it seems to work fairly well for me, I belong to a couple of others. I don't use it much for personal stuff and I have been really irritated from time to time when Facebook hid all the posts in my feed from before that day because they seem to think I don't have enough "friends." I complained really hard about that to them and it hasn't happened in a while.

Especially recently, lacking the opportunity to meet in person, the Facebook groupo has been a very useful place to meet some of my pen needs. Like here.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
