A5 Notebook Cover Help Request

Recommended Posts

I'm thinking of getting a Taroko Enigma notebook. Unfortunately, it is softcover and I love writing in my lap which generally requires a hardcover. I'm thinking the problem will be solved if I just get a notebook cover with a hard sides. The added protection for the cover will be also nice. Unfortunately, I have only been able to identify the Lihit and Kokuyo as potential options.

Is there anything else available with hard sides? Maybe something a little nicer than the above? I need zero other features besides hard front and back.

Enigma is thicker than standard A5 notebooks. I have a custom made leather cover, which was less expensive than available models that I could find.

Add lightness and simplicate.

The Nanami notebooks are similar in size to the Enigma, but the Enigma is still 1mm thicker than Nanami. After failing to find a maker of Nanami covers willing to state also works with Enigma I just decided to make my own cover.

Taroko makes a leather cover, as does Strideridge. It is my understanding that Moonster and Tall Pines covers also fit.

I have two that i love and use everyday. You could check online for the Rustico A5 webnotebook cover, or LM Products- Morrison Journal. If you use a soft cover journal, they can be stiffened with a piece of cardboard, but i’ve never had to. Both products are extremely well made to last years. I got mine on Massdrop (now Drop), but you can go right to the company site.

To clarify. You are using these with the thicker Taroko Enigma notebooks?

I use both soft cover Clairefontaine A5 lined notebooks as well as Leuchtturm 1917 hard cover notebooks.

I’ve also found this cover as well.

Taroko Design A5 Notebook Cover for Enigma or Mystique Tomoe River Paper, at The Esty site.

Thank you. They probably won't fit the thicker Taroko Enigma

Any idea on the thickness difference between the seven seas and enigma?? The only thing I could find was that the nanami was 15mm thick.

Using a stiffener is a novel idea. What are you all using to stiffen the soft covers? Also, do those covers have enough space within the pocket to accommodate the stiffener and the notebook cover? I always thought that they would be relatively tight for just the cover of the notebook or it would be a sloppy fit.

Enigma is 18mm thick.

I use a Galen Leather notebook cover for my Taroko Enigma. Works great.

The leather is thick so, fairly rigid.

Mine is like this one:

https://www.galenleather.com/collections/leather-notebook-covers/products/leather-leuchtturm1917-a5-notebook-cover-brown

It comes in other colors, shown on website.

Quality is great and excellent service.

I'm pretty sure he'll make a simple cover if you ask the owner, Yunus.

Good idea. I looked closely at the design. I figure the spine is wider than usual to accommodate all the 'stuff", which is why the Enigma will fit.

Is there insert space on the left side to accommodate the notebook cover?

Thanks

Yes, on mine, I have tucked the cover inside on the left side as well as the right side.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
