I was frustrated that my screen captures (and even the video sometimes) don't show the color accurately, so I decided to see if my USB microscope could do a better job of picking up the color, and it does. So from now on, I'll be including a zoomed in photo of the text so folks can see a more accurate representation of the color:

The "...a Dori" text is Sailor Yama Dori and the "Diami" text is Diamine Eau de Nil. All the rest of the text is De Atramentis Pigeon Blue.

Hey LizEF! Glad to see you got started on your EF nibs and inks video reviews. I was very surprised by the EF nib on my Faber-Castell Grip 2010. It shows some line variation, especially on tail letters. I got a Caran d’Ache 849 with EF nib, and while I see some of the same variation, the Faber-Castell is a nicer writer (for less money).

Now to start watching your reviews!

Every nib is different - but hopefully more reviews reduce the amount of guessing we have to do.

Hope you enjoy the reviews.

I do enjoy the reviews. Waiting for an appearance of Mr. Hippo!

I decided to keep it simple, so no Mr. Hippo - maybe he'll show up at the end of one sometime. :)

If you have De Atramentis Mint Turquoise, that should be the ink with an appearance of Mr. Hippo.

Ha! Nope, Inspired Blue is probably the closest I have to Mr. Hippo's feet. Didn't think of that at the time. Ah well, I have lots of greens, and he likes green. ;)

Here's the line width measurement. The line is one of those used for dry time.  Magnification is 100x.  The grid is 100x100µm.  The scale is 330µm, with eleven divisions of 30µm each.  The line width for this ink is roughly 280µm.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
