Robert Oster Signature Blue Sea

I just got this ink and thought I would post a quick review. I ordered several colors of Robert Oster only to find out that many of them are mostly the same. Bondi Blue, Blue Water Ice, Blue Sea, and Fire and Ice. I now have all of them and they are very close to each other. This one, Blue Sea, was probably my favorite. Its not overly wet or lubricating or even saturated, but it is a shading machine. Every single paper I used this on it shaded and shaded quite a bit. I tried to get that in the picture but I'm not necessarily the best photographer. I think the writing says most of the rest. I did only use one pen on this review... but I couldn't help it I just got a Pilot Custom Heritage 92 and for me it was expensive and one of the more expensive pens in my collection. Anywho, I'd love to hear what everyone thinks of the ink.

Thank you for the review! I love this color and I love the shading. I may have to try it on my next ink sample order.

Thank you for the review! I hadn't really considered RO's inks up until recently, when I ordered a couple samples just to get past the free shipping threshold, and I was blown away by Summer Storm. His inks are dry but not unbearably so, their colors however are simply amazing, with a general pastel-like, low saturation flavor across the whole range. This makes them perfect (imo) for large nibs and for calligraphy stuff. I'm now waiting for a bunch of other samples of his stuff. I just wish he did cheaper and smaller bottles so I could splurge recklessly like I did on Diamine, but that's more my problem than his...

I think RO must have the best range of blue inks on the market. What you have bought here are all quite close, but the range is vast and there are quite a few really excellent inks.

In rotation most of the time. Very much enjoy the colour shading, and the colour itself reminds me of my tropical homeland.

Add lightness and simplicate.

I'm fast becoming a fan myself. I've got 4 blues, 1 green, 1 purple, and 1 red. I'm probably gonna go on another buying spree soon. Inks are definitely a good way to part with your money...

I love massive amount of shading! It is a very satisfying color to look at. Especially love how the lightest part is a very legible and vibrant color, that one would probably enjoy on its own without the shading. I love RO's colors.

New to fountain pens, older to dip pens.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
