Greetings To All Future Pen Friends!

Joined just before Christmas. My apologies for getting to the Introductions post so late. (I kinda just noticed it.)

More to my intro, I started on this fountain pen journey around 7 months ago, and it's been a wild ride ever since. I made the jump from the pragmatic, clinical land of the ballpoint pen. I branched out and tried dozens of different pens in stores after the only ballpoint pen I'd been using for more than a decade stopped being manufactured. Long story short, I bought my first fountain pen, a yellow Lamy Safari EF nib.

And it just got more expensive from there. My wallet hurts, but my heart is happy.

I currently own a few pens, and a lot of ink. A Diamine fan and dedicated Japanese Ink hunter.

Well that's all for now, and I hope to see everyone out there on the forum and in the real world some day.

Happy inking!

Warmly,

Sash

Well then, a belated welcome.

Sorry for the lack of response by others, but it appears some people are otherwise preoccupied and some internet systems seem disrupted as they are unable to handle the traffic on them. Odd for a system designed initially as an Emergency communication system as a part of redundancy planning, but things change and so much is not communication, but entertainment in the system now.

This is however a great time for some to play with inks, so enjoy what you have and explore and dream for the future f you can.

Hello and Welcome to FPN!!

To sit at one's table on a sunny morning, with four clear hours of uninterruptible security, plenty of nice white paper, and a [fountain] pen - that is true happiness!

The Dallas Pen Show, 2009, is where I got hooked. My father in law gave me a Sheaffer Admiral. Then I got my hands on 2 other pens. A Sheaffer school pen, I always have a couple, and, don't laugh, a Scripto squeeze filler. Damn good pen.

It was the pen show that introduced me to other colors than black. Though it took a few months. One of the vendors gave me some carts that had Private Reserve Chocolat. Gorgeous color. It blew up from there.

I am currently a blue's and burgandy type of ink, though I do have a spectrum.

Find you a pen show or group that you can travel to see and your madness will continue!

Enjoy

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
