I'm sorry to add that the St Louis Show has also been cancelled.

Both a crowd, and vendor, favorite!

I received an email from the Morgans this morning...

This is terrible and sad news. I was hoping theyd hold off a bit longer with it still being so far out.

Completely agreed. I moaned aloud when I read this headline. I guess I'll have to keep my fingers crossed for DC in August.

I had hoped it would be rescheduled to later in the year, July likely would be too soon, but a December show would be nice as no one has one then and there is seldom anything to do in December (pen related).

December is already packed with all of the holiday activities. I think that there's a reason why Ohio is the last one of the year.

I'm just hoping that the Ohio Show doesn't get cancelled, since that's the closest thing I have to a "local" show.

ETA: And for that one, it's not just COVID-10 to worry about. It's whether another site can be found, since apparently the old hotel is being torn down and the replacement is NOT going to cater to conventions.

Hmmm. Wonder what the actual Columbus Convention Center costs for smaller events than the gaming con my husband used to go to. I know that in the past I've heard that the Pittsburgh Convention Center can cater to small events as well as big ones like the Home & Garden Show and Anthrocon (the annual Furries Convention -- the downtown merchants LOVE it when the Furries are in town, BTW, because they spend money... B)).

Emails with Terry yesterday - he has a hotel. He'll announce what and where in due time. One hopes that this mess is cleared up by then.

On rescheduling St. Louis:

  • December wasn't an option. Lousy St. Louis weather + Christmas = crappy pen show.
  • Between the Ohio show and Thanksgiving, mid-October through November was a no-go.
  • We would never schedule the same weekend as another show (or even an adjacent weekend), so looking at what was available, most weekends in September & October were too close to our dear neighbors in Dallas, Denver, and Detroit. We didn't want to mess them up.
  • Really, the only month that would have worked schedule-wise was July, but (1) the hotel is booked and (2) we weren't sure if the virus thing would be cleared up by then.

With so much uncertainty, we decided to cancel and focus on our triumphant return in 2021. Everyone on the board was disappointed, but the vote to cancel was unanimous.

I understand about the iffy weather in December or later and earlier might require another cancelation. Perhaps the Atlana show could be rescheduled for December, unlikely, but the weather less iffy that far south.

Other than religious activities which at that time of year for certain Christians becomes slightly busier, early December, after Thanksgiving is generally a good time for some of us and I would think a Pen Show, which by its nature focuses on shopping might be a good place to buy presents.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
