Inky T O D - The Unthinkable Has Happened, Amber Had To Choose 1 Ink

Luckily I don't have many inks and what I have fits neatly together in a box.

It would either be a blue or a black for me. But I guess I would reach for my bottle of Visconti Blue after all :).

Jeez, I have no idea which ink Amberlea chose. The suspense!

Me, I'm grabbing Noodler's Black.

If it were me?

Either Pelikan 4001 Blue Black

Or for something a little more playful....

Levenger Cobalt Blue or Pomegranate.

I assume any reasonable person would pick black, black-blue or blue.

For a person with lots of hope...a bright cheerful color.

A pessimistic person, a deep and dark color.

For Amberlea ... Apache Sunrise?

My one ink would be Sailor Kobe Suma Purple.

I'm guessing that Amber chose a blue, because attorneys have to use blue for certain purposes. I'll agree with Kung Te Cheng.

What perplexes me is why multiple pens and an assortment of cartridges but only one bottle of ink?

R&K Salix

Seeking a Parker Duofold Centennial cap top medallion/cover/decal.
My Mosaic Black Centennial MK2 lost it (used to have silver color decal).

Preferably MK2. MK3 or MK1 is also OK as long as it fits.
Preferably EU.

Hmmmm... Faux PPS?

No, but I did consider grabbing my bottle of Parker Penman Emerald. It was a close call.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

I'm kinda with mhguda -- I'm betting that, much as Amberlea loves her eye-searing inks, I'm also betting that it would be Kung Te Cheng. But as a backup/alternate, I'm thinking that it might be Noodler's Eel Red.

Me? I shudder to think. Much as my gut reaction would be KTC, I suspect I'd cop out and go for an iron gall ink -- maybe KWZI IG Blue-Black or IG Blue #3 -- or something like Sailor Souboku.

Except...

...So, now let me say that I thought that I would choose KWZI Violet #4, but when the chips were down, the ink I chose was totally unexpected.

...which to me kinda rules out KTC, BSB, and even Noodler's Eel Red.

Otherwise, I'm utterly clueless.

I would suggest that amberlea's choice would be something than can not be easily replaced - a limited edition ink.

I am going suggest something like Montblanc Ink of Love or Montblanc Winterglow.

If I were in the same shoes at Amberlea (which, thankfully, I am not. My office is already in my home.), I would grab all of my stub and italic pens, a bunch of ink cartridges, and Montblanc Unicef Blue. The reason is that I know I can get pretty much every other ink that I have except for my limited edition inks. The ink cartridges I could use in my cartridge converter pens, but I only have 3 piston fillers and I have used Unicef Blue in all three with great success. I would also grab my Nanami journals as well, though.

Dear Amberleadavis - trying to guess what you would pick is like trying to guess the number of colors in all existence!

This is one I will have to think on. I know it would have to be eye-searing, likely permanent, including light resistant. Hmmm. . . . gotta think on this one.

For me, as much as I love all of my inks, if I had to pick only one it would be . . . . nahhh . . . . gotta wait for it. When I reveal yours, I will reveal mine.

In fairness, during your travels, you have had to pair your inks quite a bit.

Did you ever answer the other thread about what you would chose? I went looking for it to link it here.

I was more surprised about what I chose.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

The title of this topic pulled me up short and made me gasp.

Let me start by saying that, I hate apocalyptic movies. As a kid I saw the Day After, and I was traumatized.

If you found The Day After to be traumatising then, as your Attorney, I advise you to NEVER even think about watching its British equivalent, Threads :yikes:

Just reading the first few ‘User Reviews’ will tell you why I say that.

Getting back to your questions, given that you say that the ink that you chose was totally unexpected, my guess at the identity of the one ink that you chose is: Noodler’s Black.

I would also like to add that are are right to quote the Cat - two suits is dead! :D

ETA: For my own ‘one ink’, I would probably go with R&K Salix. Even though it is about as lightfast as Count Orlok.

I like its iron-gall tight lines and lack of bleed-though, and I love its shading.

Is that your one ink?

It looks like it might be Waterman ‘Absolute’ Brown (aka the artist formerly known as ‘Havana’) :o

Hmm. Hard to tell. Looks kinda like KWZI Brown Pink, but maybe too brown? Hmmm.

ETA: Nice choice though. Browns are surprisingly enjoyable! :)

PS: Nice quote! (Was so busy looking at the ink I didn't read at first.)

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
