Sheaffer Legacy Returns

Appelboom posted an instagram stating that the Sheaffer Legacy is returning. Maybe the rumors of a new Parker 51 are also valid.

Comes down to price. If it is sub-$200, I'll grab it in a minute. But those Parkers that have made a return are over $500! If Sheaffer follows the same track, I'll have to give a hard pass.

Seeing as the Legacy models were *never* a sub-$200 pen, I think that is hardly likely. Even now, a Legacy or Legacy II will usually go for around $300 used, less if you are lucky.

Hey Dave, I don't know if it matters but this is the 2nd thread I've seen here just in the last hour (on FPN) on the same subject. Now I won't know which one to reply to!

Well that's disappointing.

Love the Legacy pens I've had....they are great pens and found them to be worth the $'s. Nibs are usually great writers and pens are comfortable in the hand.

The new ones look intriguing. Especially, like the silver and charcoal looking ones.

I like the Legacy, but will need to wait and see about this new one. Will it be the Legacy III? And while the nibs appear to be gold, the material the barrel and cap are made of is a question I will want to find out the answer to.

I do feel validated in that I thought it was a waste of a good brand for Cross to restrict it to a lower price point. Perhaps who is in charge now actually did or had some research done and understands they own a very underutilized asset and will do it justice now and make some great pens.

Wonder who I robbed then... According to my database I paid (NEW):

Legacy Heritage King's Gold $165 (Oct 2005)

Legacy II Traditions Brushed Gold $186 (Jun 2002)

Prices from 15 and 18 years ago are not the same as those from the past 5 years or so..... :)

I stand corrected, and thank you. They have held value well.

Corrected for inflation only (pens usually go up more than that) those correspond to $218 and $266, respectively.

Since the person was responding to my comment, I will just mention that inflationary comparison is beside the point: I had initially said that they were *never* sub-$200 pens, and at least one person has period receipts that show they were. I was in error.

Well, my memory was in error. ;)

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
