Hi, Folks!

 

Thought I would start a thread on these short lived pens, introduced in 2014 and discontinued by 2019. There were four designs. Let's see yours!

 

This is a Caran d’Ache RNX.316 Fiber fountain pen c. 2015-2018. The name comes from the highly polished 316L stainless steel cap, barrel and nib section that are then laser engraved with a fiber design that is shaded by varying the intensity of the laser beam. It’s a 5 3/8 inch cartridge converter pen that opens by turning the end of the barrel, which pushes out the nib section so it can be removed for filling. The cap clicks on in a unique manner that aligns the cap and barrel design. It is fitted with a black, PVD-treated stainless steel nib that was available in fine, medium and broad grades. This now discontinued model retailed for $610. A matching rollerball pen was $550, a matching ballpoint pen was $355 and a matching 0.7mm pencil was $355.

Ooooooh... love the looks of the striped one!

There is only one thing that held me back from buying one - they just take cartridges, as far as I know. I don´t like cartridges.

 

I´ve seen a ballpoint with a honeycomb design somewhere. Is there also a fountain pen?

The hexagonal design was only made as a ballpoint.

The hexagonal design was only made as a ballpoint.

That´s too bad. It would have looked nice on a pen, too, I think...

Did the converter come with the pen or did you have to purchase one? If it´s the second possibility - what kind of converter would fit this pen?

the converter came with the pen. It is a CdA converter.

There... you did it. I found a black striped one with a B nib and the shop had marked it almost 20% down, a price much lower than anywhere else. And there is no postage to pay. Seems like I am going to have a Caran d´Ache pen now...

 

Oh my... I didn´t want to buy any pens in the near future... :wallbash:

I just could stop myself from buying the ballpoint with the hexagonal design as well - it´s lovely but I wouldn´t use it much. And it just isn´t cheap enough to fall into the shopping cart as a bycatch.

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

      I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature.
